Seat Heater: seat only or back also?
#16
Seat and backrest on my 2002. Seat and backrest on my wife's 09 Chevy. Seat and backrest on my old Audi. Seat and backrest on my buddy's Chevy Traverse (with independent control of seat and backrest). I can't say that I know of any car with seat heaters that only have elements in the seat cushion.
You are one of a few people who I give credence to.
Have you determined it by feel or by viewing a schematic?
It would seem to me that a schematic would answer the question without leaving any further doubts.
And if I was wrong on my previous post, then I was wrong & I'm saying so now.
Jerry Baumchen PS) A friend has a '04 Camry with only seat/butt heaters.

Hello all-
It seems to me that only the actual 'seat' (under the butt) of my seats gets warm with the heater.
Is the back of the seat also supposed to be heated?
If so, is it possible there's a separate fuse, or is it more likely that there's a disconnect?
I searched the forums but didn't see this thread, my apologies if I missed it.
Thanks

Although the schematics confirm it, on cold Iowan mornings with just a sweatshirt on it's easy to tell that the backrest quickly changes from cold, stiff leather to warm leather.
Since several individuals noted here that only the seat bottom on their cars were warming, I'm wondering if, with use, the seat back elements are prone to problems. I wouldn't suspect element breakage from pressure (the seat bottom would go first -- the elements on on old Audi were prone to mechanical stress), but perhaps there's a connector to the sub-assembly that should be inspected as pointed out in the schematic? Or wires that get pinched or overworked from seat adjustments? Just guessin

Excellent feedback everybody, thank you.
Given how hot the seat gets, I can't imagine that I'm unable to 'feel' the back get warm.
I'm going to see if my local folks can see an issue, and I'll let you all know what I find out.
Thanks!
