Default Is there a way to make your car "certified"?

I'm about to purchase an SC430 from a private party. Is there a way to pay to get it "certified" so that you will be covered by the factory certified warranty?

As I understand it, the extended warranty is a six-year warranty starting from the original purchase date, so in this case (car purchased December 2004), it would only be good for two years. The "Certified" warranty goes for four ADDITIONAL years and 100K miles.

if it's still under factory warranty, you can purchase an extended warranty through lexus. if not, your only option is a third party warranty. but unless you buy from lexus, you can't get a certified warranty

I'm not sure how/if you can get it certified, but I just bought an extended Lexus warranty for my 2002 (out of warranty) from the Lexus dealership. The dealerships' prices varied by as much as 20% so if you go that route shop around. FYI -- The 4 year/50,000 warranty was $3000.

As I said, the "extended" warranty is good for six years/100,000 miles FROM THE DATE OF PURCHASE. That would only provide me with two years of warranty.

I'm looking for a way to get the car certified after I buy it.

not possible. short of buying the car. selling it to lexus. then buying it back for more. certification is their primary selling point when it comes to used cars. they're not going to give that up.

That's what I was told by my local dealer. I hoped that someone here might have an alternative.
