Gas Mileage
What are some of you getting as gas mileage on the SC? Mines right around 15, or so the trip info says but I havent gone through a full tank yet so Im not sure how accurate it is.
While I wasnt expecting 30mpg, I thought 20 was realistic. Hey anything is a step up from my Supra which was doing about 11.5-12.5mpg.
Oh well, Drive it like you stole it!
Happy New Year everyone!

I've been a little irked with mine myself, but it's getting better. My trip computer says I'm getting 19.5mpg average, after 1200 miles or so now (and 2 highway trips so far). I'm sure that leaving the engine running to show off the top going up & down doesn't help.
On that subject, I'm only getting about 300 or so miles per tank. I've found that the light comes on, then a couple of miles later the trip computer says "LOW FUEL" (or something like that). I filled it up, but only put 17.2 gallons in it.
The manual does say to fill it up when it's down to 1/4, but I'm curious -- how big a tank does the SC430 have??? I haven't found capacity in the manual, and my SC400 had a 20-gallon tank. Anyone know?
Happy New Year. The year has finally caught up to the SC430's model year.

I dreaded this time, when we I would stop having a 2002 car in 2001. Imagine that the car came out as a 2002 in only the 3rd month of 2001.

Page 334 of the manual states that the SC430 has a fuel tank capacity of 19.8 gallons (16.5 Imperial gallons or 75 litres).
I've always heard that it's a good idea to not let a fuel tank go below 1/4 full because of condensation problems. This is especially important in the colder climates where water can freeze in the fuel lines.
I don't know if this is true or not, but back in the old days when I couldn't afford to fill up and bought a dollars worth at a time, I often got frozen gas lines.
Now that I've spent so much money for a car, I again can only afford a dollar's worth at a time.

GAS MILEAGE SO FAR AT 3000 MILES
On the trip down from Indy to Bradenton, I drove most of the time around 85 mph as a average, and averaged 20 miles per gallon. Since most of this time was in the ECT Mode, I figure that on Interstate Driving with the Cruise on at 65 - 70 mph, I'm guessing that it should get up in the 23 - 25 range.
Perhaps moving up to beyond 5 coats of ZAINO (Z-2), followed with a "Top Off" Coat of Z-6 (Gloss Enhancer), the CD will drop below 29, and at "reasonable" (Legal) Highway Speeds and on the Cruise Control, and mileage may even exceed 25!

Last time I checked was on a run between LA and San Diego. All Freeway driving, but in normal traffic. Sometimes slowed down to 20 mph, and other times cruising @ 80. Had the top down (of course) and mileage on that tank was 23.8 mpg. Not bad at all.
Is it just me, or does gas seem really cheap. Premium 91 about $1.10. Lots of change back from a $20.00 bill.
Car now has 7,500 miles. Every one delightful.
Still hate the run flats though! Can't wait for them to wear out!!!

As in most cars they have a FULL reservior and LOW one. Also having a camry, the gas light goes on with 5 gallons left in the tank. My supra was a little less, it would have about 3 gallons left. I guess its done for people who put off filling the tank or those who saw the Seinfeld episode were Kramer test drove the Saab.
Air in the fuel line is a very dangerous thing and it would probably require a trip to the dealer. When the engine is spinning and the plugs sparking without the explosion, not a good thing.

Previous to owning the SC430, I had a 2000 Vette, which also had a MPG computer. I always calculate MPG on every fill up. One observation is the that Lexus readout has been incredibly accurate, compared to the Vette. The Vette was always 1 - 2 MPG off. (Not to knock the Vette, which was a great car.) Amazing what they can accomplish with the "over engineering".
BTW, I've been averaging about 15 - 16 mpg, not in sport mode, mostly city driving with some highway.

I make regular long distance trips for work, about 400 miles roundtrip, once a week. My MPG at speeds below 65 has been as high as 26.8, if I can trust the dash readout. Above 70 it's closer to 23.
In the city, I drive the car hard, with quick starts and frequent acceleration. (This is my first car with more than 150HP -- I can't get enough!) Mileage under these conditions has been around 16.

After 2700 miles, and mostly in-town driving (with some of it highway within Dallas), I'm now averaging 18.6 mpg. Eek.
It's not a Honda Insight, but then again, it's not a Honda Insight.

Chicago average
My average in sport mode has been a steady 21.4 MPG according to the computer (mix of city and highway driving). I use only Amoco/BP 93 octane. I noticed I was getting 19.2 MPG when it was still under 1500 miles. I'm up just over 2200 right now.

My car is getting 14.1mpg. I think I have a hole in the gas tank. I dont really do any highway driving so this could be the reason. The car is in sport mode. It still beats the hell out of my Supras 11.5mpg

mileage and elevation
Something to keep in mind is that those folks in higher elevations (aka Mountain areas) will tend to get better mileage than those of us closer to sea level. When I was out driving around in the mountains with my Porsche, I was getting a whopping 33 mpg BUT back home my average was 26mpg.
...just a thought....
And lead foot driving can easily make the mpg pretty bad (lol) -- as if that isn't overly obvious!
