Have Cali sc300 ecu. Need Federal.
Just confirmed my 95 SC 300 has the wrong ECU. (It's for California spec and my car is the Federal version.)
Any recommendations for a RELIABLE and affordable ECU expert? (Just need to find a way to disable the "code 27" it's generating because it's looking for a sub oxygen sensor. The ECU was replaced by previous owner so it's in great shape... Just the wrong one <sigh>)

I am having the same issue with my car and I have a 1993 federal car with CA ecu and throwing code 27 as well, I replaced the ecu with the correct federal ecu but the car runs bad misfires and idle's really rough? I am not sure where to go from here. let me know if you found a solution for your car.Thanks

I hate to say it but the easiest fix is to replace the Cali ECU with a Federal one since it won't require the #3 O2 sensor. Is your car a manual version? If not it should be very inexpensive to obtain a correct year automatic ECU from the CL classifieds or eBay and swap it in. The Cali spec ECU is probably worth listing for sale in the SC classifieds.
As someone who has a Cali spec SC300 with the useless but legally necessary #3 O2 wiring, I recommend you stick to what your car was designed for. Less of a headache.

I actually did buy a remanufactured federal ecu and that made things worse all kinds of misfireing and throwing more codes, I am not sure what to do because I put it back to it's original ecu, unless that ecu is no good? Any other ideas all I want to do is smog the car!....

If it's the correct ECU for the chassis and year (OBD1 for OBD1 and OBD2 for OBD2) then it should be treating your car better than when it had the wrong ECU. Redundant question but you did make sure you have a 1992-1995 Federal ECU, right? If so, that's as should be.
What are all the codes the car is giving you?
The only other remote possibility is if that ECU has capacitor issues (which you can get fixed by locating another cheap one or by sending one to Driftmotion or another vendor that does capacitor repair) but you'd be having all sorts of drivability and starting problems if that were the case.
