Best tires for ice/snow

For winter, I have P245R18 MZ-03 Blizzaks on Sc430 wheels. One has a bubble in the sidewall but I don't want to buy another run-flat to replace it. Can I just buy two of the new WS80's for the front and keep the MZ03's on the back for a season or two? Is it dangerous to mix the two Blizzak tire types?

So just to be clear, do not mix with the MZ03 with anything except a MZ03.

yea it's definitely both, no matter how safe you drive, when you're in chicago and have summer tires, you're absolutely screwed. you'll either not move, or you won't stop, no matter how early you start braking, no matter how big your brakes, summer tires just don't work in the snow. this will be my first full winter with my SC so i'll be looking for winter tires and i hear good things about Blizzaks, but since my Dunlop DZ102s are such amazing summer tires, i wonder how good their winter tires will be, if they make some.

If your driving according to conditions, regular snow tires should do
If this your first winter I wouldn't drive a lowered (slammed) SC in the snow.
I have some experience I've driven over the Sierra's many many times in the snow
FYI: Dunlop made the first tires in the World! They probably have some experience too

well it's not my first winter, just my first full winter. i got the car january 31st so winter was almost over, or so i thought. it was horrible lol, i got stuck many times and had a big piece of wood in the trunk to stick under my tires when they wouldn't move. my tires were completely bald as well, and they were 275s in the rear on TTs. i would probably be pretty okay with my summer tires since they're stretched and only 225s. but i'll be getting winter tires no doubt, just need to find some spare thin wheels that will fit over the TT brakes. or maybe just keep these and throw the tires on em.

Generally speaking, fitments for vehicles like that are very limited with only a few options and built for those vehicles.
That fitment you gave me is a really hard fitment to find something matching front and rear. How tall of a tire can you use with those wheels? A 245/40 would be smaller in the rear (OD 24.7") when using a front 235/45 with an outer diameter of 25.4". Can you do a 245 in the front/square set up? A 245-40 has a rim range of 8-9.5".

I can use a fairly tall tire. My ride height is nearly stock. When I first bought the car I ran 245/45-17 front and 275/40-17 rear. My use of the factory tire sizes for a 1993-98 Supra Turbo is more to preserve the stock rolling diameter for acceleration rather than improve on handling characteristics. A 245/40-17 would work on the rear rims if they are rated for 9.5" width but would a change from a 45 to 40 type tire up front be detrimental to handling? The added tire width up front isn't an issue.
