Water in the trunk, common problem???
Hey guys ,
when i swapped out my bumper for a 97 i noticed that where my amplifier was i literally had inches of water in there, it rotted the wiring for my amp( no wonder my radio wont work)
After researching ive found out this is somewhat of a common issue with our cars, so my question is where is it getting in from? and how can we prevent it?
Im going to find a new nakimichi amp and get my radio going but i dont want this to happen again.
Have you guys dealt with this as well?
Thanks

Ive read about water getting through the antenna seal. Theres also a tube thats supposed to direct water out on both sides toward the rear seat "wall" make sure the tubes havent disconnected.

below the amp you will see a black vent...next to that is a hole. the...tube should.go through that, not.by the seat. clean out the first few inches of tube and the hole. get a white bic Pen. cut it down to 2 inches and add. a hose clamp to keep the tube from going back through the hole.

had a similar issue in my rear passenger side.. although the previous owners just let it rust out completely. i had a huge open hole in my trunk. about 14x6 ..i'll have to cut out that whole rear corner and weld in a new donor piece.. but in the meantime.. i took a sheet of aluminum and cut it to the shape under the cd changer/amp and used great stuff expanding foam to seal it up.. not the best way but it will do for now.. at least i don't have a monster hole anymore...

What durps said.. "Theres also a tube thats supposed to direct water out on both sides toward the rear seat "wall" make sure the tubes havent disconnected."
The tube collects water from a whole in the gas cap compartment, and if the tube is clogged or disconnected right on the back of the CD holder, the water ends up in your trunk. One easy way to unclog it is to push a wire all the way through it from the gas cap compartment. I found this the hard way.. after hearing water swishing in my trunk after car wash..
