I wouldn't say 2 seconds slower, but yeah if the SC300 with a good driver does 0-60 in 6.5 seconds, that Camaro will do it in 5 seconds flat, maybe a tenth or two faster. Either that guy in the Camaro didn't know how to drive or wasn't racing you. Could be they don't know how to drive, as that 3.6 V6 in the Camaro, it doesn't really start to cook until 4000rpm, its a screamer with a 7000rpm redline.

agreed. if both is not feasible, get the 99+ SC400 if you're not going to mod as it already has plenty of power and performance

6.5s is a bit generous, don't you think? Wiki states a 5spd and 4spd's 0-60 are 6.8s and 7.2s respectively. Even that's on the low end compared with what other sources are stating. Don't forget drivetrain loss from 25 years of use, too.

Didn't intend to derail the thread; vote still goes toward the '99 SC400.

I ran across a 1999 SC400 that would be in the $8000 price range.

It is a good color and has 103k miles and all service is up to date. The only negative I see so far is that the steering wheel looks very worn on the left outer perimeter.

I would appreciate thoughts as to whether I ought to consider the SC400 in lieu of a 5-speed SC300. Also thoughts on which one I might be able to sell down the road and get most of my money back.

I plan to make no modifications to whatever I might buy. It would be a weekend driver that I would treat as a collector car.

Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions.

i got a 1997 sc300 5Spd and I love it. Pretty rear find. Might sell it for right $
