To anyone who replaced a broken windshield...
When you had it replaced, did they replace the molding with a new universal type of molding? I ask because my molding is deteriorating and I need it replaced asap. Still have original toyota glass and want to keep it that way. Sewell has the molding for like $400....
I can't tell if it's just the windshield molding or if the upper passenger door molding is shot too which is $175 @ Sewell. Trying to figure out my best options right now.

I got new PPG front glass installed in mine. I did buy OEM rubber molding and some other OEM bits to go with it but they did offer to use their universal molding. Personally, when OEM is no longer available then I'll go with the universal stuff. I forgot one type of molding for the upper area but it wasn't crucial.
I bought mine from Carson Toyota though. Cheaper than Sewell by a long shot. Barring that, try Pembroke Pines Lexus (Florida).

The reason I'm asking about the molding is because I have water leaking into the cabin over the passenger side windshield ,and the molding is deteriorating which is the cause of it. Since I have the original Toyota windshield in perfect condition I'm trying to find a company that will just replace the molding for me, but most companies don't do that and rather replace the entire windshield instead. I want to keep the original toyota windshield not some cheap crap. So far I can't even get a price quote.... I think I'm just going to tell these guys to bring me a new windshield and when they get here tell the worker to replace just the molding and see if he'll do it.

I called them first, and the closest four Safelite's don't do molding replacement...
I got a shop to redo the silicone for $80. Took them about 45 minutes so I hope they did a good job. It looks alright, I guess time will tell. Pissed tho I hit a red light camera on the way out there...so that's another $80... Crappy day adding to a crappy weekend.

It could be worse ... the red light cameras out here are more like $250-300 tickets. I've never been tagged by one, fortunately, but I did have a scare once. It flashed after I passed through the intersection, and no other cars were in sight -- it was at night, so quite obvious. I figured it glitched, but I had to wait a month or so to see if anything showed up in the mail...
