If you're going to go with a different paint code, at least keep it the same base color. I had my Black Onyx 92 SC400 painted Black Effect. It's the same color, just with a little flake in it to change it up a bit.

Not enough to be concerned about, IMHO.

More value? As in a few hundred bucks?

I totally agree our SCs are basically worthless. In my opinion i would much rather paint the car a color i really like over trying to "keep value" and paint it the stock color. The only thing i would recommend is painting it an oem manufacture color that way when you need to respray a part you can easily match the paint.

Its not the popular vote around here but when it comes time for body work mine will be getting a full paint job in a GM color. Something metallic, a ruby red/burgundy or a shade of green.

lol @ GM paint on a 120.

Ryan, we are talking about a 97 5spd. a 120. might wanna rethink on the value if sold in the right place could make a killing. esp. with original color, miles, parts. I'd pay way more for a 97' 5spd then my 93' 5spd as would most people out there especially enthusiasts or collectors. but my cheap *** got too many bills so 93' it is.

I guess it wouldn't hurt to consider some other oem lexus colors, but there are none around me...

I would love to see the RSP and some of the redish colors in person. Theres only so much you can gather from looking at pictures.

you can get the paint from lexus and have any paint shop use it. it's goanna cost ya though.

they also charge hefty if they goanna do the masking and removing for the engine bay, door sills..ect

I had a friend recently get his S14 painted. his original color is white. he payed for a metalic blue. he didn't pay much like 349.99 or something. so they did it macco-earl schibe quality. the mufflers, windows, intercooler/radiator headlights/taillights...ect all had overspray. the engine bay, hatch and door jams, wheelwells.under car. are all still white.. looks good until you get real close and start noticing it all. he has the carpet ripped out so it's just....so...noticable.. lol

I'll be doing all the paint and prep with my dad in our yard lol. Just have to buy quality supplies when we do it eventually.

"I totally agree our SC's are basically worthless"....wow I hope you are just referring to the value (or lack there of ) of your car. Many of us feel quit the contrary about our Sc's.

I still vote for the detail route. From the description you gave of your damages is sounds like most of it can be repaired. Doesnt hurt to take it to a detail shop and see what they say. Who knows they might say "its no problem, we'll make it look like new".

There is a challenge with these cars having so little relative "commercial" value (re-sale, insurance, demand) but with a lot of attractive features. Taking a "trashed" SC and applying some TLC and often times a lot of cash turns them into very nice vehicles.

I enjoy the "head turning" that I get when out and about and I am not close to what I want to do.

Having a "1 of 120" '97 in this community is honorable so expect a lot of advice from the group.

I just got my new SC and it survived about 14 years in the city...it looks decent in pictures, but in good light in person you can see dents and dings everywhere so I can imagine it's similar to yours on the outside. If you live in the city or anywhere near it where there's a lot of parallel parking going on...you know it's just going to get banged up again.

However being an original 120'er.....if you're going to change the color do it right and spend the extra cash. I got lucky I got the color I wanted so when I repair it's just a color match. Personally not a fan of the green either...

I can't see a detail shop fixing it like new. The only proper way I see is paint, or just sell it and get something with fresher paint.
