SC300 Electrical Problem. Help?
I just purchased a 92 SC300. Its an automatic and in good condition. I got it at a very cheap price due to an electrical problem I need some help on.
The DPO let it idle for a while and when he went out everything was dead except the door open chime (as best as I can tell). Car won't turn over, no power windows, lights, radio, etc.. I thought main fuse under the hood but it looks ok (can a fuse be bad and look ok?). And if it its the main fuse the door chime should not work either, right?
The only visible problem is the 120 amp alternator fuse is destroyed. It looks like the DPO tried to remove it without loosening the lugs. Can an alternator fuse cause the car's electrical system to be basically dead? That just doesn't seem likely to me. I have high hopes the alternator shorted out and that is the entire problem. Any ideas? I went to the parts store and they didn't have the main or alternator fuse. The ones in the care are square, the ones in the parts store are rectangular. Are they a Lexus only item? The battery is almost new and was completely dead. It took three days to charge it fully with my battery tender, but the car still has no power.
Thanks for any input on this, and its good to be part of the club.
