Thumbs up A/C Blowing Semi-Cold Air

We couldn't figure out why my car's A/C system was blowing semi-cold air (in actual reality the temperature degree was 38, but it didn't have BITE that you expect from air that cold).

Put the car up on the lift today, removed the rear main cat, and ac works fine now. It was blocked up minus a tiny hole that enabled just enough for the car to run ok at wide open throttle.

Just Some FYI

Yes, my car runs a little better, and my gas mileage just shot through the roof compared to the before. My A/C runs like a champ now, and I installed a cabin air filter (smells delicious).

It's very simple. The car runs hotter when the cats are blocked or getting blocked up. The radiator has to get rid of more heat than usual and your condenser becomes heat soaked like an intercooler would.

But the condenser sits in front of the radiator? Don't see how the radiator is having an effect on this, particularly if you are moving air through the system.

Was the coolant temp gauge reading high?

The condenser is less than an inch away from the radiator. That's why at high speed my cars ac would blow ice cold.

My tempature was not reading high on the dummy gauge but it's a very inaccurate gauge.

I couldn't touch my intake manifold yesterday after five minutes. Now I can. It's actually hotter outside today down here.

I didn't think it could do it either but then I started thinking about it and it made perfect sense.

Just another random quirky issue I have had with my car.

Did you replace or remove your cat? I'm having the same problem I think.

The air blows cold in the morning, but in the afternoon it cools it down a bit at best, and hardly at all in stop and go traffic. My compressor is good, and it drips water when running, so something is cooling, but the air that it blows into the cabin isn't that cold.

The best way I can describe it is that it cools the outside air 20 degrees, so it ifs 70, the air is 50, when its 100, it blows air at 80.

Did you just replace the front cat? I really don't want to take it out...

By the way, I've got a 92 w/89K miles.

I removed the rear main cat and it was blocked.

I have a good feeling that the front cat is blocked, I just haven't gotten to the chance to take it out and check but if I go through all that trouble it's just going to get a aftermarket exhaust manifold in it's place.

you removed the rear main cat...ok...yet it is on the front near the radiator? It seems that there is a cat on each side.

Sorry if I sound so stupid when it comes to this, but I'm no exhaust expert. Thanks!

Rear main cat is on the bottom of the car towards the exhaust resonators.

SC400 is different, I'm on a SC300
