Buying a 92 Soarer with 1JZGTE 66K miles
Hey guys, been out of the Lexus scene for a while, probably a yaer since I sold my GS300. Anyhow, I'm back in japan (been here for 8 months now) and finally decided to start looking for Lexus equivalent and found a Soarer. The guy doesn't even know its twin turbo, he just wants to sell it to buy a truck. He wants $1500firm for it. I'll need to get a new passenger seat belt, clean up the rear seat and get a new driver side door panel.
The paint is in good condition and the engine needs cleaning and maybe a bit more oil, knocks just a tad. I really like the car, but can't make up my mind guys.
I already have two cars and will have to sell my Montero in order to stay at two, can't have more here in Japan (one per driver license).
Any how, what do you guys think? I haven't done much research on the 1jz, so if you have any helpfull insight, please share it.
thanks in advance everyone!

i would do it too. they sounds like a great deal if your able to buy it and drive it. like the others said, its cheap enough that you could rebuild the engine and have a sick ride for cheap!

Ignore these guys ... No offense to these guys.
Please rewrite your post and tell me what the actual figures are?
Ie speak Japanese.. How much yen is he wanting? How many km has it done?
Is there current shaken remaining? If so how long?
Service history???
If he's wanting 150,000 yen then that seems even a little high..
To put it in perspective... The Soarer I bought my parents was:
White vvti Lpackage
104km with books
Rays evolution 4 18in rims
Mint condition car
Blitz nur catback
That car was 180,000 yen...
Fuel and oil I wouldn't worry about.. Most japs will service their cars at a Toyota dealer...
Honestly I think if it's a TT then don't bother. Hold out for vvti

Soarers are a great car if you're asking for an in general perspective...
But please buy a Soarer from an enthusiast.. Someone who knows what they're doing!!!!
It's a real buyers market over there so feel free to be picky... Prices for soarers go anywhere from 150k yen up to 2,500,000 yen!!!
They're a great car for their money if you buy a good one you won't regret it..
If you want access to USs auction houses and pre purchase inspections let me know...
If not... Then dude... You're in japan!!! You can have any car you want!!!!
GET a GX71 CRESTA!!!

^^All good information from Relapser, pretty much covered it all. Considering the door panel will need replacement $1500 may be a bit much. One more thing, inquire if the 100,000km service has been done.

I just re read your post...
Like properly... Personally I say yes get a soarer. But... Not this one...
Spend an extra few more yen and get a good condition vvti one man
They're out there if you're willing to search...
But yes, as I'm sure you've seen.. Prices in japan are "firm"
And haggling is a no no
Persoanlly I just wouldn't want to own a TT soarer
Having had both the TT and vvti single turbo versions..
I must say the vvti is a much better put together car...
Spend the extra and be done with it man... Don't buy a car that needs fixing.
Buy a car that will love you back!
