Exclamation Possibly picking up a another SC3. Need advice on fuel pump "toggle switch"

i'm going to check out another '92 SC3 this Monday for my wife. Seller says it has 177k on the clock and everything is sweet engine/tranny-wise.

Now, the seller told me that the previous owner claims to have "replaced the fuel pump" and he also installed a toggle switch on the steering column which turns on the fuel pump before you can turn on the car with the key/ignition. This i the only way to turn on the fuel pump, and its been working fine like this with no problem.

i've read up on the 12v Fuel Mod(even though my understanding of it is that it is for people who have done the GTE swap?)

My question is: Why was this toggle switch installed? was it possibly because the fuel pump ECU went bad and this is a bypass? Is there anything i should be concerned about?

thanks brethren...

No the guy was a lazy jerk. Wire in a 30/40 amp relay. Should have 5 pins. 1 power into the relay, 1 power output to pump, 1 ground for the relay, and 1 switched(key on) 12v signal. I wired my 12v switched using the old power wire from the stock wiring. Make sure you do the 12v mod tho first. Basically what happens is on key on the relay switches on instead of using the toggle. This is a great way to run a suppra tt pump or walboro at 14v the power in should be wired directly from the battery. When the car is on and alt is charging it will output the voltage to the pump ( around 14v) making your pump run a little bit harder. All these parts can be had at autozone or advanced auto. Makes me wonder what pump he installed in it?

maybe they didnt know about the 12v mod and that is the way they did it... if you do the 12v mod its basically bypassing the fuel pump ecu. so if there is a problem the 12v mod would take care of it either way.. get the car and see how they wired that and do the 12v mod it should solve that issue and you can remove that switch..

I thought it was a "kill switch" to avoid theft. Then again, kill switch shouldn't be placed in a spot that's easy to find. Sounds like a cheap way around the ecu.
