Question Fuel Pump Trouble

Hey guys...I just got my fuel pump installed at this locale shop....didnt do it myself only cause my wife insisted that i pay someone since it had to do with gas...and I could blow myself up.or something crazy like that...anyways I let someone else install it....so I drop my car off...leave and then come back to find out my car wont start...the guys there says some how...my system...which takes up the entire trunk...was pinching the power wire and when the guy pulled out the original fuel pump it got damaged...somehow...So they ghetto rigged it.(they put a switch on it so i had to turn on my fuel pump on to start the car)..so that i can take it another guy who specialized in toyota and lexus..So I drop my car off at this guys shop...and he says its going to be a week before he can look at......anyways the problem is that i called him up yesterday and he says that the fuel pump may have an ECU for itself and that may need to be replaced....Is that true or is this guy trying to lie to me and get a few extra bucks????

Hes right. There is a fuel pump ecu located behind the ?drivers? side rear panel. The one for the people sitting in the back seat. Diagnostics should be able to pick that up if it was faulted though
