Revisiting Dyeing Carpet
Well I am redoing my door panels (after i fiberglassed them because they broke like every other early model SC) and I got down to the little carpet piece in the corner.
I originally was looking for black carpet and I was going to replace it... but since the carpet is molded, making a new piece like that wasn't going to happen and look right.
Well I had a half bottle of Black Ritz dye laying around. So since that tan piece was useless... I tried it. Put the half bottle in my garbage can (lol) and filled it up with water. I left it in there for a day.
The carpet is JET BLACK. I rinsed it until the dye was not coming out and it is still jet black. It was amazing. I just ran it through the wash and dried it.
Haven't put it on the door panel yet, but here is a cell phone picture. I always thought it was going to look crappy and what not... Looks like it was supposed to be there.
So I was contemplating on doing it on my carpet... I was going to buy carpet anyways, so it was worth a shot. big garbage can, 10-20 bottles of the dye and water... what do you think?

The Ritz dye your using there is some amazing stuff. I have used it personally on everything from carpet, leather, vinyl, plastic (r/c car wheels), etc..if you dye the carpet, and rinse it, and it seems kind of light, you can dye it several times over till you get the right color/shade..and the good thing, this stuff doesnt rub off over time.
I think you would be able to do all the carpet with 10 or 15 bottles in a 30 gal can..and if you dont want to do it, I already had plans for this as part of the build progression with my SC.

should work out very well but i mean if the carpet is molded wouldnt you need a very very large tank type thing so it could sit and soak while laying flat ? Wouldnt leaving the carpet in a trash can over night kinda damage or mess up the shape of the carpet ? I would love to try this

I dont think it would. The carpet will mold back into place once its in the car. Shouldnt be a problem. I just dyed mine with SEM.. Turned out good. I would like to see if this turns out better for future reference. Keep us posted.

lol, it looks kind of purple from the pic. If you say its jet black, then it's all good. Sure as hell looks better than tan.
