93 SC 400 Lexus with an antenna problem
Hi all,
I purchased this 93 Lexus SC 400 new and keep it in pristine condition. It currently has about 71000 original miles on it. However my antenna mast which I have replaced several times seems to be grinding in the down position when I turn off the radio. After about twenty seconds it stops. The mast goes up and down without a problem it just grinds when it is fully retracted. I took out the mast motor and cleaned all the sprokets of grease, however it still grinds when in the retracted position. In addition, when cleaning the sprokets I checked them all for worn or broken teeth. All seems to be fine. I installed a new mast and the problem is still there. I am wondering if the motor or some electrical part which would turn the mast motor off is broken. Has anyone had this experience and what would be the fix for it?
Thanks for your quick response
Rich

just pull back the side carpetting in the trunk and unplug the antenna harness...your radio will still work and you wont have to deal with the noise..i had the same problem.
not to mention it wont look like an RC car going down the road with that long *** antenna
