Default Finding HUD on an rx?

so uh, the only way i know of to tell if an rx has the hud option is to look for that bank of black buttons below the star button, right of the steering column....

is there some easier way? or is it all a matter of looking at tons of dealer photos to find that needle in a haystack

im dead set on HUD by the way, its super useful

EDIT: i'm talking about a 2010-2012 RX specifically, so, several years used

Yes, I love my HUD -- wish every vehicle had it. In my experience, it's difficult to find an RX with it. Only a small percentage of delivered RXs have the option, and from the 3 dealers I talked to here in SoCal, it always required a special order to get it, unless some wild card vehicle ended-up arriving at a dealer for some reason. None of those dealers ordered RXs for their lot with HUD or PCS -- only via special order. Part of that reason is cost -- HUD is a $1200 factory-only installed option that has a prerequisite of the Navigation Pkg.

To figure out if an RX has it, besides the buttons, it's an option no different than paint/interior color, towing pkg, nav, etc, so it should show up in any listing a dealer can pull on the car's details. The HUD buttons as you say are a physical indicator. If those are on, you'll get the display in the windshield after turning on the RX as well. To narrow things down if you're searching on the net, if the RX does not have Nav, it can't have HUD.

Good luck in your pursuit!

Like Bert said, finding an RX with HUD is going to be difficult. For some reason it was more popular on earlier 3rd gen RXs. Maybe you can ask a few dealers if they expect to receive on soon. They should be able to search what's coming in. I forget what the acronym for HUD is, maybe HU. Do you know BertL? My special order sheet is not local to me at the moment.

HUD = Head Up Display -or- Heads Up Display
depending on who is talking. ;-) I've seen it both ways in even Lexus marketing materials.

I had to special order my 2015 RX450h to get the HUD option. The local Seattle Lexus dealer said that "only 5%" of 2015 RX's are built with that option. Not sure if that's really true or not.

Mors and litzdog911 were kind enough to post all the codes in this thread. Thank you! GF is the one for HUD. Sometimes dealers list the codes on their websites.

I spent the past couple of weeks trying to find a dealer in both NorCal and Socal that would sell me a 2015 RX450h with a HUD. There were only a couple available at one point, and both came with the Luxury package that I didn't want. Many of the salesmen commented that they had never even seen a HUD on an RX, and that Lexus stopped putting them on RXs after a while as they didn't sell. I had a HUD on my old Pontiac Grand Prix and loved it.

Rather than special order (dealerships wanted me to pay MSRP for a special order, yikes!) it I finally found a dealership that was willing to trade another, out-of-state dealership one that had HUD and premium package. I paid for shipping (few hundred dollars) but got the car/price that I wanted.

Right. I suspect you've picked up by now that HUD is rare to begin with, and now limiting to specific model years is going to unfortunately make your search that much harder. There isn't a lot more to say except that I wish you the best in your search, and hopefully you'll report back with a picture of that find one day!

joekitch, I'd say your chances are increased finding an earlier RX with HUD. Like I said before, it was more popular back then. Plus you might also get AFS and auto dimming high beams. Try narrowing your search to RXs with the luxury package. I recall many members having HUD and the luxury package together.

On a side note, the 2012 RX350 marked the switch to regular gas from premium on the 2010-11 RX350. I mention it in case that matters to you.

Back in 2012 i considered myself lucky enough to pickup standard 2010 CPO RX350 with HUD and luxury packaged, Afs, ML audio, auto high beam and headlight washer. Its rare find

I actually test drove one twice not knowing I had a gem! It was $5K more than another 2010 (the one that I currently have and $5K worth of issues) and had a blemish (whole fish tail at top) needed painting and I asked the dealer to reduce the price.......but to my dismay ge wouldn't budge. Not only that he didn't want to give back my $500 deposit to hold the vehicle. In CA that's against the law . I got it back. But it was midnight blue, 107K and quiet as the LS460! Had I ignored that blemish I would have had it factory painted and the talk of the town....clean on the inside clean on the outside...damn, now I ask every dealer that has an RX (2010) w low miles about H U D....
