Thats expensive, you'll most likely end up paying over $100 once everything is said and done. I would just take it to a Toyota dealership and have them do it. This time it cost me $75.06 for a full synthetic oil change with OEM filter, but from now on im gonna take my own stuff and just pay the labor. It sucks that you cant take it to a toyota dealership in NJ Svofan1.

..now you got got it!!!!!.....bringing the filter and oil yourself may be a little bit "ver the top" sincethey also make money in these 2 items and afterall the whole thing is really reasonably priced. In NJ, I am speaking without really having a solid information..i have not taken it down to a Toyota dealer yet and will not at leat for a year since the firat 10kmiles are covered .

Did that all the time we my RX330. The first oil change that Lexus paid for I brought the oil to them to make sure that Mobile 1 was used.

I drive alot so oil changes are very frequent for us. I drive about 30k a year. That's 6 oil changes x $15 so the dealership will make $90.

Ya I'm using Mobile 1 0w20 but I'm more comfortable getting it changed at 5k to 7.5k intervals.

Good for you. It is only money and you can make more of it the next day. However to put 30kgas miles on a car in a year you must be on the highway alot. And highway miles are the best miles to put on a car. Not alot of stop and go and the car has a great chance to get up to operating temperature. I am sure that a oil and filter change every 5K or 7.5K will be grate. IF you are ok with it then that is all that counts here.

I know im kinda wasting money by not waiting for the 10k intervals but with oil changes every 5k I'm still noticeing extremely dark dirty oil when its drained out during the oil changes. Thats why i feel more comfortable getting it changed at 5k to 7.5k intervals. Thus my reason to use toyota instead of a Lexus dealership. The RX is just one of the vehicles the others annual mileage is between 23k to 28k. Ya I drive a lot. My driving consist of 80% highway and 20% city.

At my dealership, the "routine" oil change service at 5000 mile intervals, which includes just regular oil, change oil filter, and rotate tires, costs $150 in the end. YOu can get a free car wash with that if you want, but it adds about 20-30 mins to the wait time so I usually decline.

THe same service at the nearest toyota dealer is $40 full price, $29.95 with coupon. My 2005 ES330 now has 70K miles on it - gonna start going to Toyota from now on.

Oil turns dark as it cycles through the temperature changes as the engine heats up and cools down. Not an indication of how clean it is. The only way to tell if oil is dirty or contaminated is through an analysis. Take a sample and send it to any one of the companies that offers this service and you will get a full report back. Changing synthetic oil every 5k miiles is a waste of oil and money, unless there something else that is wrong with the engine that requires it to be done.

i drive a lot as well, about 40,000 miles a year, (1 hour 20 minutes one way). that's why we have a commuter car... the Toyota Prius.
anyway, i do all my oil change on all our cars including the RX 350.

i agree with billy44bo, since i do mostly highway, i am able to enjoy the whole 10,000 mile interval. The synthetic oil ( 0W-20) is good up to 16,000 miles so the 10,000 mile interval is a safe number to be in.
Trust your engineers!

Changing oil on the RX is actually a lot easier than on the Prius.

I also have a Prius and jus bought a 2012 RX 350. I do mostly stop and go, city driving, so I was hesistant to wait 12 monts/10,000 miles between oil changes on the Prius. I do 8-months/8,000 miles and will likely do the same for the RX 350.

I just had the second oil change on my 2010 RX at my local Toyota dealer. They put in the synthetic oil and rotated the tires for $73.94 out the door.

I just want to comment on the BYOO ( bring your own oil ) to the service department.
The savings are negligible, here in the South California the prices of 0w-20 before taxes are:

1. Mobil 1 0W-20 ( Walmart) 6.95/quart
2. Toyota Synthetic oil 0W-20. 7.25/quart

That's why i buy my filters and oil at my Toyota dealership.
I do my own oil change as well.
