Default Purchase extended warranty?

First time Lexus owner. Picked up my RX330 the other day.

The dealer presented the option of an extended warranty plus the usual assortment of paint and leather protection. Interestingly enough the dealer was honest enough to say that the rust protection and undercoat were not necessary with Lexus.

One of the reasons for me choosing Lexus was its legendary reliability. Of course Lexus repairs, should something go wrong, is likely very expensive.

Should I get the extended warranty? Have others bought them and found them useful?

Try the search button .... topic has been discussed before.

In summary the odds are that you will loose money in buying the extended warranty (that is why they are sold).

You may purchase the Lexus extended warranty up until you have 36,000 miles on
your Lexus. The price is the same regardless of whether you have 35 miles or 35K
miles. I'm sure that the cost of the warranty will have gone up by the time you have
35K miles, but you can better gauge if you'll need it then.

If you buy the warranty on day one and do not use it after your regular warranty is up, then lexus will refund your money. So all they get is interest on the $2000 for 7 years/100k miles

What I find interesting is that the 7 yr extended warranty on my $40K Lexus (std 48K/4yr warranty) is 1.5 more costly than on my wife's $50K Corvette (std 36K/3yr warranty.)

I would have passed on the extended warranty, but the car is my wife's ride and she wanted it, so we purchased it.

did not purchase extended warranty - Lexus makes quality cars - there really should be no need - at least that's what I'm hoping
