Default Idler pulleys

how much should I realistically pay to have both pulleys changed out on my 07 rx350?

Depend if you plan on having a Lexus Dealership or a Toyota Dealership do the work. Toyota Dealership will be cheaper. While your at it you should also replace the belt and tensioner. If it was my car I would do the work myself and use the money saved to buy Genuine Toyota Parts. With the proper tools a good mechanic should be able to replace the two idler and tensioner within 90 minutes with either a coffee or smoke break.

Remove serpentine belt by turning tensioner counter clockwise.

Replace both idler and tensioner. Picture must have come from outside of the USA. Generator is really Alternator and Vane Pump is PS Pump.

OEM part numbers. Original idler pulley have been replaced see Related Parts. This is for a 2009 Toyota Sienna with 3.5L engine. Lexus Dealership prices might be higher. Look around and I'm pretty sure you can cut the prices in half.

Audiq is right. Or, at least, find a mobile mechanic that will come to you and do the job for fraction of dealer cost. to DIY, remove wheel and wheel well cover. Makes it much easier to access engine pulleys.
I just did brake fluid flush on my NX at Toyota dealer. I called several, response is - we do work on Lexus but we charge Lexus price. Toyota was 3 $$ less though and 30 min less drive time. As a pleasant surprise, service guy knocked cost down for me, at the pay time, from $195 to $157. I am nice to people, they are nice back.

well i probably will have a independent chain that i trust thats just down the street from me do the work. I dont have the tools to do it myself nor do i have the money to buy needed tools right now. I have to have plugs changed as well so I might as well have both done at the same time. I believe they wanted like 5-- something labor and tax included. is that too much

Default Tool cost over time pays for a lot of labor

If you are willing to bite the cost of a good tool set initially, you'd be amazed at how quickly it will be paid off when you can do a job yourself versus paying for labor. Every new job may require a new specialty socket or tool, as in the case of our 09 RX350. I just replaced the spark plugs on ours at 120K this week and I bought a set of stubby wrenches to remove the intake manifold brackets, a 5/8" magnetic spark plug with a 6" wobble extension and #5 Hex long sockets. New tools ran me about $60 and I saved close to $500 in labor alone for a 4.5 hour job listneing to my favorite podcasts and play lists in the garage.
This forum and you-tube videos have given me confidence to do a lot of work on my own.
As a back up I'm a AAA member with 100 miles free towing. In 17 years of working on Lexus, Toyota, Ford, Honda, Jeep, Volvo cars and trucks, I've only had to get towed out of my garage once.
