Brake Pads and rotor help...
2006 Rx400h
my brake pads are under the 3mm mark.. and absolutly refusing taking it to lexus for new breaks..
Can anyone recommend break pads and rotors, i drive alot of highway with an average speed of 65 to 80mph...
Really dont mind spending the extra money on quality break pads, and rotors that wont rust and look orange the day after their installed.

there are a lot of aftermarket rotors.....some come with the painted hubs. As for pads Akebono pads are really good and are generally same as OEM or better. Brembo disks are fine also...I have used them in the past....on my RX300

Get OEM's Toyota, you will not regret it. Sewell gives us a discount anayway.

Like many topics here, this one has been discussed at length previous. One just needs to search. Of course, you will need to have spelled brake correctly to get the proper results.

A Lexus tech doing this for you mich save you some hassle if the calipers have issues, however unlikely. Replacing hydraulic brake components/a caliper on the 400h requires a Techstream or a scan tool that can disable the EBD and zero down the accumulator pressure (to do the job the right way).

A Lexus tech doing this for you mich save you some hassle if the calipers have issues, however unlikely. Replacing hydraulic brake components/a caliper on the 400h requires a Techstream or a scan tool that can disable the EBD and zero down the accumulator pressure (to do the job the right way).
Is this true?
I see no electronic wires/sensors on the calipers but maybe it's a fluid level thing.
If it is true then would a commercially available electronic scan tool be able to do this?

I just changed mine without scan tool...However I did not open any bleeder valve...So far no problems...If you have no shutter when braking dont bother changing rotors...mine have 125k miles and are still fantastic. The Hybrid puts less strain on the brakes as electric braking reduces wear.

I just changed mine without scan tool...However I did not open any bleeder valve...So far no problems...If you have no shutter when braking dont bother changing rotors...mine have 125k miles and are still fantastic. The Hybrid puts less strain on the brakes as electric braking reduces wear.
You mention not opening a bleed nipple- I considered that to avoid changes in fluid levels being detected when the piston is pushed back in that a method would be to clamp up brake fluid hose at the caliper and open bleed nipple then any pushing back in of the piston would expel some fluid. Close nipple and remove clamp resulting in no change of fluid level at reservoir.
Sound logical??

No need for a scan tool, just follow the advise as above, you are good to go.
