Default Parking Brake Light Stuck On

The other day I disengaged my parking brake and the light on the dash remained stuck on. I stopped set and released the brake but no luck. It did not sound like the actual brake was stuck so I continued on my way.

I had took my car in for another problem, and they said that the stuck light is an “electrical issue”. They said it will cost $125 to diagnose the problem, plus any parts and labor to resolve the issue.

Before I give them the okay I thought I would see if anyone here had the same/similar issue that was an easy or DIY fix. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

This may sound stupid, but it`s not low on break fluid is it?

I thought about that, but have not been able to check because it is still at the dealer for a carrier bearing joint replacement. The dealer said they did diagnose it as an “electrical issue”, which I assume means they checked the actual brake and the fluids. I just changed the brakes about 2 months ago, and had to remove a little fluid from the reservoir. That was going to be my first check when I get it back.

Thanks for suggestion. Any other ideas?

It could be a stuck float on your reservoir.

did you try lifting the parking brake lever with your foot, and if so did the light go out?

There is a switch that engages when the foot pedal is all the way off, and if the pedal does not go 100% all the way up, it does not engage. A fairly poor design, in my opinion.

YOu can readjust the switch, or maybe just wrap some electricians tape around the part of the foot pedal that touches the switch to make the switch depress a little more.

I did not know about this switch. I will look into that today, and see if that is the cause. Thanks for the tip.
