Default Mann oil filters

Hello,
I'm looking for people's experiences using Mann oil filters. I currently use K&N 2009 in my '05 and I crossed referenced it to be a Mann ML1005 filter. Has anyone used this filter? Online the filters are $5.18 whereas a K&N is $9 to $11
Thanks in advance,
Chris

Why not just use the Toyota one? Another good alternative are the Wix brand....

Google search it...

Possibly a rebadged Purolator Classic from the Bob is the Oil Guy forums.

+1 on WIX. Available from Amazon or NAPA. The NAPA Gold filters are WIX.

MANN and K&N are not in the same league, thus the price difference.

Just noticed, you are running the "long" filter?

For those DIY members, was not the original 2004 RX330 filter installed by Lexus/Toyota a long filter? And, only later did they change it to the shorter filter we have today?

Something sticks in my head about that for some reason. Perhaps old age.

One of the independent German automotive shops up in the NE I frequented used to use MANN filters by default unless you asked for something else. Think it was typical of VW/Audi to use those. I always made sure I got BOSCH for the Mercedes I had at the time.

You're correct, this is the long filter. The smaller one is K&N 1002.

K&N is garbage compared to WIX and a few others. Buying a name brand only when buying K&N.

Wix is what I would recommend.

Would be interested to hear more about that.

Mann (and Mahle) oil filters are OEM for Audi/VW. I have been running the Mann oil filter for years on Audi products. Just curious how/why they are not in the same league? What is wrong with them?

Mobil 1 and K&N are both made my Champion labs and are both very good filters as are NAPA Gold (aka Wix) filters.

From the looks from the BITOG link, it would appear as the white Mann is possibly a re-badged Purolator classic. Still a good filter, but I would agree, not in the league of Wix.

But, from my experience for Audi, the Mann is a very good filter.

Yes, the European made Mann filters are OK. Not the Purolator made editions. Quality has been inconsistent over the years, Purolator, so was lumping Mann in with them.

Yeah, the European made Mann filters are excellent. They're the OEM alternative (and I believe possibly OEM in some cases) for some Mercedes engines.
