Thinking of purchasing 07 RX 350 with 113,000 miles NEED ADVICE!!
I am looking at a Lexus RX 350 with 113,000 miles listed for $17,928. The car looks like it is in good shape and has a clean carfax with 1 owner. My hang up is with the amount of miles. The salesman said they were all highway miles...which I would assume since it is only an 07. I would like the car to last me at least 5 years from now. Anyone have this car with similar miles? Any advice would be much appreciated!!

Type in the VIN number of the vehicle at the Lexus website below. The complete Lexus service history of your vehicle will be there as well as any warranty work. There are two recalls on the 2007 model. This website will indicate if they were completed or not. (those were the VVT-I oil hose replacement and the carpet cover clip recall).

Let's assume an average driver puts 12K miles on the car.
This 4.5 year-old car should have 54K miles and sold for $25-26K (not Lexus certified pre-owned)
At 113K miles, the car's power train has been running 9.4 years but the rest of the car is still at 4.5 years old.
If everything (mechanical, electrical, electronic) on the car is in great shape, then the $17928 price is more than fair for the buyer.
By the way, this car is due soon for a major scheduled service at 120K miles.
At my dealership, it's $630 and involves new spark plugs.
If you negotiate, mention that to the seller.

Buy it! Rx 350 is is going to take you far more than 5 years. I say it'll last you 10+ years before an engine swap and trans rebuilt. 120k service is ought to be done... Timing belt, water pump, spark plugs, etc. Negotiate price down to 17-17.2k and take that baby home!

All great points. I'd buy it too. Miles just aren't a concern for them. - check typical stuff. (Brakes, tire wear, service history) You didn't say if you were purchasing from a Lexus dealer. If not, maybe take it to one and have them do a used car inspection on it.

I'd recommend putting your 17k as downpayment towards a brand new RX. Then just consider your monthly payments as possible repairs for the old RX. There is nothing like a new, and updated vehicle. I also own an 07 and am happy with it but the 2011 is a different beast all together. Test drive one and see the difference. I believe this is an effective marketing strategy of lexus as they provide you with the latest loaner car while your car is in service.

I would be concerned about air suspension (if the vehicle has it). For example, I will sell my RX350 when it comes to ~70.000 km (~50.000 miles) because most of cars with air suspension start having problems at high mileage. My last car had minor issue with air suspension at 60.000 km. Thankfully, it wasn't serious, but I sold it anyways.

Its has the same engine as the new highlander/avalon and Es350. As far as i know all of those cars have belt not chain. Only euro cars like bmw and benz etc...use chain instead of belt

I like this idea but your assuming he going buy this car with cash instead of loan through a credit union or something. Plus, he said he would like for it to last him 5 years which indicated to me he going with a loan or something not paying cash. But if he is paying cash i would go with what you said and put 17k down on a new Rx350.
