What to buy?
Hey guys, first post and I really appreciate any help you may provide me. I'm looking at 2004-2007 preowned RX 330's and 350's. I have found several 04 and 05 330's with around 100k miles for $13k-$15k. I recently came across two very nice vehicles and wanted to get your opinions on what you would lean towards. I found an '05 RX330 with 111k miles at a lexus dealer, very clean, good maintenance record etc. I can prob get it for around $13,500. Then I found an '07 RX350 with 125k miles prob can get for the same price. Just looking for something really reliable and will be a daily driver for the wife but will only go about 7 miles total a day. Assuming all things equal, would you go for an '05 with 15k-20k less miles or the newer 350 with more miles? Thanks

All of the vehicles you have noted can easily go several hundred thousand miles without need for major repairs. And all the vehicles you have noted can have a boatload of problems. There are no absolutes here. As with any used vehicle purchase it would be best to have any vehicle thoroughly inspected by an independent mechanic even if you are purchasing from a dealership.
Other words of note: the RX330 uses a timing belt which should be changed at 90K. So, that should have already been done on any vehicle you are looking at. The RX350 uses a timing chain which does not need changing.
If you can find one with a complete set of maintenance records it would make a world of difference in the decision. A well maintained RX can be a very good purchase and a few years or a few thousand miles should not make that much of a difference.

This is a toss up. As RX330inFL mentioned, one needs timing belt maintenance and the other doesn't. Find out if the 330 has had the timing belt changed as that will save you $900-1200. Also, find out if the spark plugs ave been changed - this is a pain and costly as well because you have to remove the upper intake/surge tank. Lastly, check the power steering rack and pinion as this was faulty on several 330s. While it might not need immediate service it is something to be aware of.

If price were the same, I would go with the 350 with a little higher mileage.(as long as not huge difference) Bigger engine more power, improved transmission gear ratio, quieter and better resale value/insurance value. just my 2cents
