procedure for accessing the glovebox LED
Hi all
Wanted to change the orange light in the glovebox to something whiter that would match the instrument lighting.
Spent a few hours researching firstly how to remove the glovebox unit
1. You need to take out the whole glovebox unit (not just the glovebox itself, but the surround trim)
(see my other post) https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...-surround.html
2. look up, near the glovebox latch and you'll see the black plastic box in which the LED will be shining (if your lights are on)
3. unclip the wire harness to this
4. squeeze the sides of this box gently and push out forward
5. the box comes apart in two pieces (use a thin flat screwdriver or blade that won't snap!)
6. take out circuit board
7. desolder LED (with the black plastic housing attached)
8. replace with 5mm LED of your colour choice. IIRC, the -ve (Kathode) end of the LED is at the end away from the 2 x brass contact pins on the circuit board.
9. reassemble the box. Maybe test with a 1.5V battery (the negative terminal on the plastic box is the right one when looking from the top with the pins pointed downward)
10. push box back into slot near glovebox latch.
11. reconnect wiring harness
tips - find a LED that has a wide illumination angle. I used the widest angle clearwater white LED I could get (20 deg) but I think 40 would be better at lighting up the glovebox.
Hope this helps someone planning to do something similar!
