Wanted to get your general opinion on what to do with scratches and chip marks on the bumpers. I've got a $500 deductable so I don't want to shovel out that kind of money everytime I notice a scratch or chip. At the same time, I don't want to pay for cheap painting that weakens the lexus paint.

The issue at hand is I purchased a used RX 330 with some minor scratches and chips on the bumpers. Do I just leave it this way or do I shovel out some money to take care of it knowing that I will probably get those scratches and chips again if I drive my car?

I have the black metallic pearl, and bought a used 04 that had a terrible scratch on the rear hatch. I went to automotivetouchup.com and they sent me a small bottle of the exact same color and a bottle of clear coat. I use an artists brush to put them on as it works much better than the brush that comes with it, but they look much better. A little dab of both will take care of most chips. keep in mind, that if you don't use the clearcoat, the touchup will dull after a while and will be very noticeable.

There are times when a bad repair job is worse than the scratch to begin with. I would suggest leave it alone unless metal is exposed and you want to prevent rust. But that is just me.

Salim - you are very, very, very correct. Since the bumper is plastic, I would probably leave it unless a different color was showing. The large scratch i had was showing bare metal and actually had rusted. I used a diamond bit pencil to get the rust off then painted it.

Check with your local auto dealers and see who they use when a car comes in with a scratch! I have a neighbor who is self-employed full time as an in dependant "touch up guy" for the local auto dealers. He fixes all of the minor scratches and road rash that makes the difference on selling a car at full price versus the well used price.

I've used paint pens with great results. They have a sharp edge that allows you to fill in the scratch or chips without applying a big paint blob. If the scratch has not made it through the paint, you can just use a clear coat pen to fill in the scratch flush to the rest of the finish. It takes a bit of patience & fairly steady hand.

Don't understand about the $500 deductable....just go to a body or detail shop and see what they charge to fix your problem...

do a look up on for dr colorchip, worked pretty good on my black is and for other members as well.

Looked at the website for dr colorchip. Pretty amazing stuff. Is this for real? What about long term? Does it fade or cause damage to the original paint? Seems hard to believe.
