I've been searching, but haven't found the answer to my particular question.

If I wanted to upgrade the steering wheel of my 99 RX300 to a wooden one, could I keep my current airbag rather than swapping it out for a 2001 airbag? That is, will my 1999 airbag (sans chrome Lexus emblem) fit the wooden steering wheel from 2001+ ?

From what I gather, no.

You need to find an 01' or up airbag that is single stage to go along with the 01+ wheel.
