I just got a 2001 RX300 off craigslist here in Hawaii, but I didn't get a user manual with it. So I can't tell if some things are broken or if it is as designed from Lexus.

My questions are:

1) does this car have a headlight reminder warning chime if you forget to turn off the headlights and open the door?
2) Is there a light between the sun visors that come on when the door is open?

My 2001 does not chime when the lights are left on, I wish it did.

I think it is a feature that can be turned on with the c-best settings, but only a dealer can change them.

I think the light between the visors has a switch on it. You can have it on/off or on when the door is open,

No warning chime when the headlights are left on, but I think they may automatically turn off in a short time. Give it a try.

The only light that can turn on when the door opens is the ceiling light. On my RX300, this has 3 positions: always on, off, and controlled by opening a door. The map light between the visors is only controlled by the on-off switch it has. Note that my RX300 may have a lightly different layout since it doesn't have a sunroof.

1 -> No but the lights have a auto shutdown, with interval. Double lock action makes that instantaneous.

2 -> The light you mentioned are what was referred to as map lights. If you drive with the door not fully shut, you will hear a waning ding (very polite) when you reach around 2mph.

Contact your local dealer or Lexus corp to get the Owner's manual.
