Brake pads from Sewell

Brake pads from Sewell
In the past I have generally used Raybestos pads and have had good luck. I decided to support our sponsor and get some parts from Sewell. The pads came in and they are different than any other pad I have seen. They are in fact in Toyota boxes. They are severely beveled on one side. Both sides are beveled but the front pads have a distinctive slope to one side only. Why? And does the bevel go in any particular direction or do I even have a choice. The rear pads have very little contact area compared to the pads I have used in the past.

I replaced pads on all four corners of my daughter's RX a couple of years ago, and I seem to recall noticing the significant bevel, also. Since they were original Lexus/Toyota parts (from Sewell, I believe), I just went ahead and installed them. The rears looked small (but correct) to me, also. I've had no problems at all.

There is a bevel, but I dont recall it being different (did not look hard enough maybe). The contact area is less due to the bevel and as the pads wear down the contact area gets bigger.

I replaced my original pads last year with Lexus/Toyota pads purchased from Irontoad. The metal was painted a different color and my independent Lexus mechanic had never seen them that color before (light blue?).
