Default transimission problem or something else??

after the snow day, I drove my RX300 to work. after half an hour driving, the RPM looks strange to me, I pulled it off the hiway right away, then the Rx300 just die right there. no matter in R of D position, the car just don't go anywhere. the transmission was rebuilded around ten thousand miles ago..

I thought the tranny was gone at that moment. by the time I waiting for the tow truck, my friend called me to disconnect the battery to see what happen.
I gave it a try, after 15 minutes, I connect the battery back, and the car started right away. the transmission back normal driving condition , but I heard some strange sound come from the engine bay.

it's from left hand side ( pass. side) it's like " she..shee... " not a normal engine idle noise.. sounds more like electric car. I towed it to a shop anyway and waiting for the shop reopen next monday..

anyone had this experience before? what kind of problem it might be?
please give me some ideas.. Thanks

do you have a friend that knows much about cars? have them look at it if you do. before you get ripped off at a shop. highliy doubt it has anything to do with the transmission.

any engine check lights?
shhhhh noise is what a vaccum leak sounds like. hard to tell without actually being there. but i know of a common problem that throws a check engine light.
its on the back side of the intake box. theres a hose that has a weak little clamp on it and it just pops off. i will try and find the tread for you.

but if you have a friend around town that can look at it first thats what u need to do. other than that i hope the shop you brought it too is straight and doesnt over charge you too bad or make some crap up so u have to spend a lot for no reason. i cant stand how A LOT of places work like that
good luck. hope its something simple

yeah so what im talking about is just a hose behind the air filter box. it doesnt sound like its the problem but...

hey and i guess it could be a trans problem dang it. did it idle ok when you had it in neutral?

what your buddy had you do with disconnecting the battery was just resetting the ecu. again huopefully he can take a look at it for you.
and hopefully someone else on here can be more helpful than me hahaha

I went to start the car today again.
the engine light is gone. but I need press deep gas to move the car very little and slow. no matter D or R..
my friend told me might be the sensor, or maybe need to replace the whole tranny make it easier..
any idea about the cost to replace the tranny?

called the mechanic, he will come tomorrow to check..
