Engine RPM's at 70 MPH??
We have a 1999 AWD RX300 that my wife drives and I am curious how many RPM's you guys get running at 70 MPH? I was surprised that ours is running about 3000 RPM at 70. I'm used to driving a Ford Fusion that only runs about 2200 at 70 so this is new to me but I assume the AWD is a contributor.
Any information is appreciated.

My 2002 AWD runs around 3000 RPM @ 70.
I've always thought that the RPMs on the RX/300 were a little high, but that's the way the car is made.

DanDevoe is correct, that is how they were made. It would have been nice if Toyota selected a better final drive ratio....but what are you gonna do?

About 3000 rpms here as well. I was wondering about this for the past couple days myself.

The amount of drag at 70mph is tremendous on a SUV, so you have to be up on the power curve. Fuel economy starts to suck as you go to 75mph.
Lot of variables involved in the design choice.

Did they change the final in the 03? I am running about 77 at 3K or is my tachometer or speedometer is off.

You have FWD... the others had AWD.
I too run 3k at 70, although I'm usually going much faster than that!! lol

Same here, around 3k at 70mph on my AWD. I thought was a little high as well, but oh well, still get around 21 mpg.

In contrast, my mother-in-law's 3rd generation RX350 AWD does around 2200RPMs @ 70. Makes me think that the engine in the RX300 would be subject to a shorter life...
