Odometer Malfunction Experience
I probably wrote about this some time ago, but I have to share the experience - long story short:
For years, the odometer in my parents 99 RX300 would freeze in the trip A or B setting, and to push the button to get it back to the odometer reading would not yeild any results. Then, after a while, it would switch back.
I fought w/Lexus to get this thing repaird out of warranty, and they agreed to pay for half...which amounted to $450 for a new Combination Meter Assy unit, which is a new instrument cluster basically.
A few days before I was to take it in, my sister left the hatch open and viola!! Dead battery. I disconnected and charged the battery for a solid three days. The car had no power supply for that amount of time.
I hook up the battery, and to my pleasant suprise, the odometer is functioning WITHOUT INCIDENT! It has been for 4 days now and I am just waiting for it to start malfunction, but so far so good...
If anyone else has had this problem, quite possibly that what this unit needed was a complete reset by taking power away for a few days and then powering up again. I have no other way to explain it!
Happy New Year,
JBL
