Here you see how the holder is mouted to the speaker...
The kit is Nokia's CARK-125, sold by Cingular($75)
The phone is $59... Conversation is perfect, even at 85mph.
(also gets WAP as well)

sleepybobcat, that looks really good. It fits very nicely by the shifter, does the phone mount completely clear the shifter when shifting into drive? Kinda makes me want to switch to cingular, buy a Nokia 3360 and use that hands free unit!
I'm trying to get my Motorola StarTac mounted somehow with a hands free kit. I am looking into the profit mounts and there is a motorola hands free kit for about $200 to be professionally installed. Yours looks so much simpler though - does the mic have a lot of wire showing?
Here is what I have been looking at:

LexRX,
The gear shift does not touch the phone or speaker
in any gear position. My hand doesn't touch it either...
The "snow" button and seat heater switches can
be easily accessed...
The RX is one of the few vehicles that the Nokia express car
kit looks good in. This is primarily due to the location of the
cigarette lighter.
The phone holder and speakers are separate. I simply used
one screw and some double-sided tape to attach it to the
top of the speaker. Very stable and the audio quality isn't
affected at all. Nokia's speaker tends to be a bit loud.
The microphone is attached to the top of the windshield
using double-sided tape. All the wires are hidden behind
the headliner trim and come out from the gap near the
bottom of the center wood trim. No wire is visible at all.
It only took 10 minutes to hook up.
I have three 3360s and every car has the same kit, which makes
it easy for me to take my phone with me.
I used to have the full StarTac(CDMA) kit in my previous
SUV(Navigator) and frankly I like the Nokia express car kit
much better.(both style and sound quality)

sleepybobcat,
The phone looks great. I had done the same with my Nokia 6970. However, everytime I put the phone in the cradle, it would move + you had to look down to talk into the mic. I then got a PRO-FIT metal plate and installed the cradle on to it and ran the power wires behind the wood panel and hooked it to the lighter wires. This way I don't have to plug it from outside. I also got a 6 ft extention and extended the microphone wire to the front visor. The job looks totally professional. None of the wires are visible. It took me less than 30 minutes to put on. Saved about $200.
I will take some pictures and post them some time next week.

Wow, you guys are inspiring me to wire my own custom hands free kit too. malhokc, can't wait to see your setup. Sleepybobcat, you are just too crafty with this stuff, very innovative! I wish Sprint used Nokia phones, I would duplicate your setup
I had no idea you had to put the mount onto the speaker, it truly does look professional. I see where you tucked the microphone wire under the wood panel, where did you go from there to get to the top of the windshield.
I'm going to have to figure out something for myslef. I like the way sprint's service works for me - I may need to find a new phone though - one that is better suited for mounting (i.e. not a flip phone).
I'm really glad you posted this Sleepybobcat, a hands free kit is exactly what I have been working on lately. I'm in no hurry to get it done though - I am saving my $mula$ for a wood/leather wheel
