I have a 2000 RX300 with the Nakamichi sound system. I have noticed that the sound from the left hand front door speakers will occasionally cut out briefly.

At first I thought that it might be loose wiring but when the volume on the system is turned up the speaker starts working again (sometimes I have to turn the balance all the way to that side and crank it up, but that always works). Also, it seems that the sound cut out begins when the volume is down fairly low. Any ideas? Are there seperate amps for the speakers as in some Bose systems? It's actually hard to tell sometimes if the door speaker or the tweeter on the dash is what is cutting out.

I haven't had this happen in my RX300 (and I also have the Nakamichi system), but I have had it happen in my father's Mercedes 190E.

In that particular case when you do what you are doing, you are basically jumping the gap. In that case I had to check the connections in that door. What I found was that since it was the door where the power window had been used most often, that humidity and dampness over the years had caused one of the terminals to deteriorate, so I replaced it and put some electrical tape around it. I don't think this is the tweeter.
