Default Anyone using 17" rims?

Hey guys. First time posting in the rx section for me; Im usually over in the IS side. Anyway, I've done some searching and reading up on the stickies with no luck. I'm looking to get some winter tires and figured more sidewall would be a good thing.. Plus 17" is usually cheaper than 18"'s. Anyone know if 17's will clear our brakes?

I'm looking at either 235/65/17 or 235/60/18. I should also mention I have a 450h with 19" oem but I'm fairly certain our brakes are all the same. (I see the hybrid section but figured there's more activity here)

I did some reading on this lately when I purchased my winter setup. As most of the bolt pattern from highlander, venza, RX 19" and 18"rims are also 5x114.3 (4.5") with a 35mm offset those "should" all fit. However tire rack does not list 17" as a direct fit. They do list an 18" and that is what I purchased. I would prefer oem but I am on a time restraint. So the answer I found without test fitting is no 17" will not clear the brakes.

I purchased 235/60 R18 from tire rack as that is what they recommended for tires.

Thanks for the reply Sean. I'm think you're probably right. I may borrow a friend's IS and try the oem 17" just to be sure. I fit oem 17" on my previous is350 before and that has larger rotors than the rx. I'm really just looking for extra sidewall at this point.

I would be interested in the outcome of that as well even though I already purchased my 18's. I also checked with a few dealers and they did not know. Interested if you used a older 17" highlander rim from a junk yard for a test fit if it would work. I believe A Toyota seinna 19" rim also will probably fit as well.

The 17" Toyota RAV4 steel wheel p/n 42611-0R020-SW fits fine. I used these for 245/65-R-17 snow tires.

I would bet that the 2011-2017 gen 3 Toyota Sienna 5-spoke 17" wheel will fit the gen 3 RX450h since they use the same front brake disc (part # 43512-0E030) and brake caliper and have the same bolt pattern and 35 mm offset.

The 5-spoke 17" Sienna wheel is probably the most readily available Sienna wheel since the highest volume Sienna (trims L and LE) come with it. The Sienna comes with 17", 18" or 19" wheels depending on trim and Sienna owners often use 17" Sienna wheels for winter tires on Sienna that came with 18" or 19" wheels.

I think the 17" Sienna 5-spoke wheel looks a lot like the 5-spoke 18" RX450h wheel. Refurbished Sienna OEM 17" wheels can be purchased from http://www.wheelsandcaps.com/p-21148...7x7-69584.aspx at a current price of US$117.67 each. They ship to Canada and other countries but that gets more complicated and expensive.

I'll attach a photo of the Sienna 17" wheels showing what they looked like before I unboxed them in 2014. They are OEM refurbished but they arrived looking absolutely like new and still look like new in their third winter.

If you stick with Toyota and Lexus OEM 17" rims, it should be plug and play.

Otherwise you will have to study the offsets specs.

In my case, I stuck to Toyota-Lexus options.

Unfortunately, the offsets aren't all the same. There are websites that show the offsets of all Toyota and Lexus wheels.

Kansas, do all of the 3rd gen RX models (including f-sport) use the same brakes that you posted?
Those are very nice 17" sienna wheels. At that price point they are less expensive than the basic 18" aftermarket wheel from tire rack ($138) that I purchased. Nice find.
Could you link some of those websites that list the offset of Toyota and Lexus wheels.

I checked that it would be the front caliber if 17" would not fit but it's great if they do.
I have set of 17" Rav4 alloys currently in 2nd Rx. They do have higher offset than Rx own wheels but they are excellent on gravel roads as less stones are hitting the sides.

According to the parts cross reference at www.*******.com , all 3rd gen RX use the same brake components. The gen 3 RX F-Sport isn't specifically listed but I assume that information for it is displayed when the RX350 with 8-speed transmission is selected. Edit: This forum for some reason suppresses a portion of the URL so substitute t*o*y*o*d*i*y after removing the asterisks.

I'm not much of fan of Tire Rack's aftermarket wheels. I bought a set of Mille Miglia wheels from them in 2003 to use with snow tires on the 2000 LS400 I owned for many years. They fit but couldn't accept rim weights and there wasn't enough clearance between the front calipers and the rims to properly use stick on balancing weights. A couple of years later when I curbed one and wanted a replacement, the aftermarket wheels were no longer available. Not learning from my mistake, I bought a set of aftermarket wheels from Tire Rack for my wife's Prius v wagon's snow tires. They fit poorly but work well enough to use a few months a year. No more aftermarket wheels for us!

I apparently didn't save the links to the websites I had found that contain offset information but I quickly found a good one with google search: http://www.wheel-size.com/size/toyota/ , http://www.wheel-size.com/size/lexus/ , etc.

I happened to park a couple of spaces away from a gen 3 RX350 with the 5-spoke 18" wheels at the grocery store on Saturday. There appeared to be at least one inch of clearance between the front caliper and the rim of the RX wheels. The amount of clearance between the front caliper and rim of the 17" Sienna L/LE rims I use during winter on my Sienna Limited (which came with standard 18" wheels) is commensurately less and appears to be approximately 1/2 inch which is plenty for stick-on balancing weights.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. Glad to know we have some 17" options out there. I ended up settling on a set of 18" steelies with blizzaks for $550 cnd. I'll run these for a couple seasons and then look again for the 17's from a rav or sienna preferably.

Now the tricky part is registering my TPMS sensors. I don't have the ID's since the tires are mounted already so Im assuming I'll need to buy a scanner or dismount tires? I'll poke around techstream and report back.

If the ID's for the TPMS of your new steelies haven't been uploaded to the vehicle ECU then Techstream can't read them. I wouldn't count on the ID's being on physical labels attached to the sensors. Any decent tire shop should be able to read the TPMS ID's with a handheld electronic tool that is held next to each wheel. Those code readers were a minimum of several hundred dollars when I checked a few years ago.

I and most people I know who do it themselves use ATEQ Quickset handheld electronic tools to retrieve existing TPMS ID's from vehicle ECU's and to upload new TPMS ID's to vehicle ECU's. The Quickset attaches to a Windows PC via USB. The Windows software for the Quickset is a bit basic but it all works very well. I paid US$150 for the Quickset on Amazon.com and it paid for itself the first day I used it.

The Carista phone app also can retrieve/upload TPMS ID's via Bluetooth with a compatible OBD2 cable that can be purchased separately.

Hi Kansas. Thanks for your many replies thus far. Seeing as I'm buying these wheels used and the seller has already sold his RX, I may be out of luck then. I've found one of those handheld readers for about $150. I'll either buy that or new sensors all together. Or just go to Costco and have them read the ID's for me so I can manually input them.
