Maintenance Required Vs. Oil Change
Hi all,
Recently I purchased a used 2013 lexus rx350 f sport .
It has 42K Miles currently .
From past one week it is showing Maintenance Required indicator .
Questions :
1] Wondering if maintenance required and oil change is same ?
2] Would it have different indicator come up for regular oil change ?
3] I have another 15 year old lexus car, all we did regularly was oil change ,tires, brakes. Nothing else.
Wondering with new 2013 rx350, does it need some other special maintenance every 5k miles ?
Or is just a way to spill out money at dealership service center ?

Do you have the maintenance record of the previous owners? That would give you the maintenance history.
Should be available at the local Lexus dealer if it was serviced at Lexus. They have a data base. You need to furnish your VIN to them.
1) No. They like to see the car every 5,000 miles. Oil/filter change is every 10,000 miles.
2) No. There's no different indicator for an oil change.
3) Congratulations. You have an excellent car.
4) No. There's no special maintenance every 5,000 miles. See #1.
5) Yes. A way to bump up the bottom line at the dealership. I let Toyota do my oil changes and regular maintenance.
I use the dealer for warranty work. So far, not needed.
Hope this helps.

Every 10,000 miles I get an oil change and tire rotation. This should be less than $100. Every 30,000 miles the brake fluid needs to be changed and again about $100. Every 20,000 miles change the air and cabin filters. This combined takes five minutes and the air filter can be bought on line at Lexus Parts World for $18. The cabin air filter can be bought at Walmart for $18, It is the Fram Fresh Breeze #10285 with carbon and baking soda to filter the air. Wiper blade inserts again can be bought at Lexus Parts World for $20 for both refills and takes five minutes to replace. You are done until 100,000 miles. At Lexus Parts World use cl5 in the promo code for 10% discount. If you go in and ask for the 10,000, 20,000 30,000 maintenance you will be paying big bucks for a lot more items you do not need checked and inspected. Once a year replace the key fob battery cr2032. Keep receipts for everything. I take my oil filter bought at Lexus Parts World and 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 purchased at Walmart for $24 to my local Toyota dealer and they charge me $15 labor.

I just did my 30k service myself and saved about 450.00. changed oil, replaced air filter, replaced cabin filter, had free tire rotation done at local tire shop. The only thing I'll need is brake fluid replaced when I need pads. I cannot believe the brake fluid needs to be replaced at 30k. I called my dealer and they wanted 540.00 for the 30k service. DIY was 95.00 and completed it all in 1 1/2 hours.

^^Nice savings...
In regards to the brake fluid change, Lexus recommends 3 years or 30K miles so you should be fine waiting a little longer. Acura recommends the same 3 years / 30K, but I pushed it to 4 years because at the 3 year mark, it had 17K miles on it and the SA told me I could wait a little longer.
If I remember correctly, when we had our ML350 MB recommends replacing the brake fluid @ 2 years or 20K miles which IMO is too early. But what do I know..
