2015 RX 350 maintenance costs?
Juggling two 2015 RX 350's....
- a non-certified with 26k miles, nav, etc. It has comfort package, remote start, parking assist....probably can buy for $35.5k
- certified with 27k (two new tires, mats, etc) - $36k out the door - no comfort package, remote start or parking assist. (less favorite of the two colors)
While having 'free' maintenance and two extra years of warranty would be nice, juggling -
A) less features/gadgets
B) same color I've driven for eight years
Any idea what the 30k, 35k, 40k and 45k maintenance events are worth? Sales guy just told me 'roughly $1500 worth'.
I'll probably only drive it 5~6k/year, so he said I'd need to bring it in every six months for service. And, how long are tires lasting on these things? Strange they replaced two to certify it.
Local dealer told me they'd bring a loaner to my house, if I bought a certified. Guessing that probably applies only if I buy from them?
Thoughts?

Pole Position
I never go in a say I want the 10,000, 20,000 or 50,000 mile service. Every 10,000 miles ask for an oil change and tire rotation at the Lexus/Toyota dealership. This should be less than $80. Every 30,000 miles the brake fluid needs to be changed and about $100. Every 20,000 miles change the air and cabin filters. This combined takes five minutes and the air filter can be bought on line at Lexus Parts World for $18. The cabin air filter can be bought at Walmart for $18, It is the Fram Fresh Breeze #10285 with carbon and baking soda to filter the air. Wiper blade inserts again can be bought at Lexus Parts World for $20 for both refills and takes five minutes to replace. You are done until 100,000 miles. At Lexus Parts World use cl5 in the promo code for 10% discount. If you go in an ask for the 10,000, 20,000 30,000 maintenance you will be paying big bucks for a lot more items you do not need checked and inspected. Once a year replace the key fob battery cr2032. Keep receipts for everything. I take my oil filter bought at Lexus Parts World and 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 purchased at Walmart for $24 to my local Toyota dealer and they charge me $15 labor for the oil and $20 for the tire rotation.

Thanks, I'm with you. I do the same with my wife's Toyota Avalon hybrid. Last month, took it in for 'free oil change' and they wanted $68 to change the cabin air filter. Bought it on amazon for $12 and it takes all of 5 minutes (and it takes that long because the wife stuffs the glovebox). Same for wiper blade inserts, etc.
I was just trying to compare as i got the hard sell last night on the Lexus certified (and how I was getting $1500 worth of maintenance with that). I did find one website (a Lexus dealer in PA - kudos to them for actually posting prices!!) that listed roughly $130 for the 5k service, I think $28x for the 30k, and $5xx for the 40k. One of the service item was 'checking and tightening all bolts on chassis'. Wow!

Yes, to Lexus's credit, you can find online their estimated service cost for each scheduled service.
Having said that.....on one of my first services, the Lexus estimated price was $184 and I paid
about a third of that (!) at a Toyota dealership.
I also echo the comment about not asking for the 20k service by name...just look in your
warranty book, see what needs to be done, and request that a la carte at the Toyota dealership.
My service has, thus far (30k miles) been inexpensive and nicely done. Zero beyond routine maintenance.

Just a couple of quick thoughts. The basic warranty is 4 years 50,000 miles from the service date. You could wait and buy and extended warranty before the 4 years is up if you start having problems. If the first car has blind spot monitors and the second one doesn't that alone would tip me to the first car.
