"Expected retail price $299.99. "

I wonder if they're going to run any promo as an introduction.

good question, historically i think when they launch new products they usually had a gb or so. but this time this is more limited to few models so will have to see

Any idea what's involved with installing this? Not much info on the web site yet.

For the RX's programmed to auto open when the unlock button on tailgate is pressed, maybe it's wired to trigger that? I hope the sensor isn't visible.

Yeah, I'm wondering where the sensor goes. And where you connect its electronics into the vehicle's bus.

from what i gather, the sensor is in the shape of the license plate and it goes behind the license plate (and the plate goes on top)

I had a bunch of stuff in my hands today and was able to get the fob out of my pocket, unlock the RX and have the rear door open by the time I got to the car. Most of the time this approach works well. I wish the fob worked a bit further away (especially when trying to locate the RX in a garage) but other than that this method works well for us.

I would prefer "OK Google / Siri / Cortana, open my tailgate", as I'm walking up to the car, so it's fully open when I arrive if my hands are full of something. This system doesn't seem to be fully hands free unless I suppose, you want to be twerking or doing some pelvic thrusts at your license plate. Don't be surprised to find yourself on YouTube in short order. If you have to use your hands, it's only marginally more convenient than going for the fob.

Although I've heard some complaints about it, I kind of like the idea of foot activated sensor used on some Fords.

The foot activated sensors do seem like a better design. Using Google, Siri, or Cortana would still require you to take your phone out and activate it.
