Default One tire flat, now discontinued. what to do?

I bought a cpo RX350 last year, and the dealer replaced the 4 tires with Hankook Ventus AS tires.
We drove 17k miles on them, and discovered one tire had a screw in the tire, at the furthest edge of the tread.

No tire shop is willing to patch it, but the tire hasn't actually lost air yet.

The tires, I discovered, are discontinued. The dealer suggests the newer model Hankook, replacing one tire. Tire rack says to replace two tires. Discount tire/sears says to replace all 4 in a AWD vehicle.

Does the hankook tire tread on a new model present a problem with the other hankook models?
Does the 17k miles wear on the other tires going to present a problem for replacing one or two tires?

If i have to change 4, are there recommended tires? Goodyear seems to have a good black friday sale at sears.

Thanks in advance.

I would always replace tires in pairs and think 2 of the newer Hankooks would be fine and save you some money over new tires.

However, there is an exception. You should look on eBay for used tires to replace just the bad tire. That is what I would do and save my money for holiday shopping. It is likely you can find an exact match with similar tread wear if you know how many 32nds are left. Tread wear is measured starting at 10/32 new down to 2/32 or 3/32 at replacement time. I have bought a few used tires when replacing flats on tires with similar mileage. eBay seller VYC best used tires is reputable and I recently bought 2 used tires from them.

Do you have 18 or 19 inch wheels?
Here are ebay search results for 18 http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from...60+18&_sacat=0

And for 19 http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw...55+19&_sacat=0

This is very helpful, thank you.
I think I will go with the two new Hankook tires as I don't want to drive around on the donut spare until the used tire arrives.

Thanks again.

Probably not the best idea, but I would be tempted to pull the screw then put tire slime in the tire and see if it holds.

Is the screw close to the sidewall or in the tread? Reason I ask is because I've had three in a year and only needed a patch once. The other two, much shorter, were stuck in the thickest part of the tread. Sounds like yours is close to the sidewall since nobody wants to touch it. If you do go the used route, just check the manufacture date. And if you do decide to change all four, take a look at the tire thread on top of the forum for recommendations. I recently replaced mine with Michelin Premiers at $215, not including a $70 rebate. So far so good.

Good luck.

Not losing air? Before replacing the tire unscrew the screw. You may be pleasantly surprised to find it's only 1/8" long and hasn't penetrated the cord. I was lucky once like that.

Good luck.

I have also been lucky like this a couples. However, one time I decided to pull a tiny screw because I was convinced it didn't penetrate the tire. It did, lucky for me the tire shop isn't too far from home.

OP, if the screw is anywhere near the sidewall I would strongly suggest replacing the tire even if you have to purchase two. A sidewall really shouldn't been repaired for safety reasons.
