How to select right replacement key model?
Guys,
My car came with only the master key. Recently my dad lost the key to his Audi and what a time consuming process that was, trying to get a replacement key since there was not valet key.
After that experience, I want to get a duplicate master key. Most ebay ads say that there are different models of keys and I have to know what my model is before buying one.
So the Question is: Do you know where the model of the key is mentioned?

hisstojay is correct about the FCC ID. On my keys, though, the FCC ID is not on the outside where you can see it. You have to open the outside cover and it is inside on the actual remote.
The FCC ID is HYQ12BBT. This is used on 2004 through 2012 RX 330 & 350 and the 2006 through 2008 RX400h.

Dennis I cannot see a similar FCC ID. Thats the problem. None of these numbers seem to correspond to any standard FCC ID format. Maybe its because I am in Australia hahaha!

I posted in another thread, you can buy spare keys on Ebay with just a picture of your existing key. This will only unlock the door manually, you won't be able to start the car or use the remote until you buy a programmer and add the key's and remotes to the car.

Guyrat7, if your lexus is 2003 RX300, the FCC number is: N14TMTX-1. You can get it cheaper on Ebay
Check the links below (from ikeyless and Ebay)

I was was aware of the FCC number being different for the 1st gen. Where my ignorance showed up was looking at the photo of the key. I was assuming the op has a 2nd gen also and the photo of his key was so different from mine. Live and learn.
