Default Car wash - Antenna

Hi folks,

The car's a mess after all the snow and sand etc, we've been driving in the northeast. I plan to hit the car wash this week, so I took a quick look in the manual about the antenna. The manual says to actually remove the antenna. But I didn't see any reference to how. Is this really necessary ? It seems like the thing to do is to fold it all the way forward ( facing the front of the car ).

And is there a way to disable rain sensing wipers for the car wash ? Another thing that didn't seem obvious.

Thanks
Oz

Hi Oz-
I have a 2007 RX350 and my car wash seems to fold my antennae down. I have to remember to put it back up. Also for the auto wipers, if you move the "arm" to the most upward position that will disable the auto sensor wipers.

Seek out and use a Touchless Car wash then you won't need to mess with the antenna. You won't get a lot of swirls and scratches that way either.

To turn the automatic rain sensing wiper off push the stalk up from auto to off.

Turn the wipers all the way off. The antenna will be fine if you fold down.

Yup agree just turn wipers off from Auto. The rain sensor is off. On the antenna, just unscrew the tail. Screw in after car wash. Better be safe than sorry. A friend has a broken antenna and it will require the whole assembly to be replaced, $300 worth and the labor to tear down the headliner to replace the assy.

Default Antenna

When my RX was new. I took my antenna off once for a car wash. Threw it in my glove box while the guys detailed the car. Forgot all about it. And drove a couple of weeks till I noticed I forgot to put it back.

Didn't notice any difference in the FM radio. So I just bought a small plastic cap. And left it off till the day I sold it.

I never even thought about the antenna which survived repeated washings for 6 years until I bowed to the winds of fashion and replaced it with this spiffy shark fin antenna.
