2004 RX330 AfterMarket DVD and Stereo
I have been looking online and reading posts and I wanted to see if anyone had some ideas about adding a new stereo and DVD system to an RX330.
My wife has an 2004 RX330 with the touch screen installed. Two things are going on.
1. She left the sunroof open and it rained so now the radio works.. but not well. The touch screen is still 100% OK.
2. We are going on a very long road trip next year and I would like to add some headrest monitors for the kiddo in the back seat as well as possibly add some DVD player/media (avi, mp4) capabilities to the front so the wife can watch while I drive.
Has anyone done a mod where they kept the touch screen (due to the climate controls, trip information etc) and added video/DVD to the car that could also run video in the back?

Welcome to Club Lexus, rugbyguytx.
Like many questions you might have about your RX, this one has been discussed previous. You just need to use the search tools here for the forums on CL or you can use a search engine such as Google and add clublexus.com to the list of search terms. For now, this should get you started:
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...-with-nav.html
Nothing specific about taking the video out port and sending it to rear displays, however, it can be done. Please consider that since kids these days want to do their own things, you might just consider an iPad or some Android tablet with a copy of VLC, a charger and a set of headphones for their listening pleasure. It is also something you can take with you wherever you go and can easily upgrade as you are apt to do. If you still want to go with built-in displays here is a writeup for a 3rd Generation RX install:
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...l-writeup.html
Be careful on what you put up front. In some states and localities it is illegal to have a video playing in the front of the vehicle the driver can see while it is in motion.
There are Car Toys shops in TX which might be able to help you with your choice of system upgrades and installation needs.

I'll second the notion of an ipod touch/ipad for the kiddo. Don't worry about having to futz around with DVDs, pausing it, etc.
I've got 3 kiddos and in our last vehicle, we had a portable DVD player with 2 monitors that strapped onto the headrests. I realize you're talking about something more "built in", but I think in the long run, the iPad/iPod option is going to be less expensive, and as RX330inFL mentioned, easily removable from the car
My 3 kiddos each had ipod touches for a while (older ones are had for cheap on ebay, and will play videos), but one has now upgraded to an iPhone. Such a better alternative to the DVD player in the car, IMO.

This was what I had in my 04 RX. It doesn't have the touch navigation screen, but it doesn't really matter as the aftermarket units replace the stereo. I happened to have a flip out monitor and single DIN EQ in my set up at the time, but you can easily use a double DIN screen head unit instead.
For the headrest monitors, I used Apine touch screen monitors and installed them myself. Since you have to cut into the headrests, I bought spare headrests and did the modifications on those. When I sold the car everything was able to return to 100% stock.

CJG and RX330 in FL. Thanks for the advice. I figured that was the best option. I will have to find something for up front for the wife but will stick with the iPAD for the kiddo in the rear. What iPad mounts would you both suggest as mine is kinda.. janky.
CK6Speed, the Touchscreen NAV also serves as the climate, and trip information interface/gui as well so I would need to keep that functionality.
