Default Brake light illuminated on dash board with chime

Thanks as always for any advice.

Have an 04 rx330. The brake light remains illuminated on dash along with an occasional chime.

Replaced front pads and calipers about 6 months ago. Fluid is filled right to max line.

I saw saw a lot of posts from 99s regarding a fluid level sensor getting stuck in cold weather but nothing in 04 forums about this.

Various posts non model specific about misaligned or broke parking brake pedal switch.

Any suggestions for troubleshooting easy to hard?

Just a quick update - I did knock/tap the reservoir. In another forum for the RX300 someone said DISCONNECTING the sensor from the brake fluid reservoir made their light go off.
I did disconnect the sensor but the light remains on.

Next I pulled the door sill and side panel off to get a better look, but could not for the life of me see where the switch meets the pedal. However, I did find this rubber grommet on the floor just under the carpet under the emergency pedal. Could this have fallen off something that now prevents the pedal from pressing the button?

I tried looking at pictures of the pedal assembly online, but didn't see anything that looked like this clearly, but also had a hard time seeing anything clearly in many of the small photos.

Any ideas?

If that rubber thing was under the carpet, I doubt that it fell off something. How would it get under the carpet? It has probably been there since the car was made.

Just an uodate.

Ive narrowed t down to the switch in the pedal.

If if I push the pedal down slightly the light turns off.

Anyone have a diagram showing how to access it?

This is an indication of the defective brake switch. You can purchase the switch at any auto store, they are OEM, so much of them have failed that the item is available. There was a recall on this and it has long expired. hard to put in but you can find info here:

Good luck.

Sorry I wasn't clear on this, it's not the brake pedal switch in this link, it's the EMERGENCY brake pedal switch. The "BRAKE" light on the dashboard remains illuminated. If i jiggle the e-brake pedal with my foot the light toggles on and off.
I'm wondering if anyone has ever had to replace the switch in the pedal, if it's even a part that can be replaced, or if I have to remove / replace the entire emergency brake pedal assembly?

Thanks!
