If you rotate them according to schedule, you may be able to go the lifetime of the tire without a balance. I would say you should have to re-balance a tire maybe once and at the most twice, if it was balanced properly when installed.

I have 25,000 miles on the Alenzas and they are still fine at 70-80 mph.

Adamjeeps - I have Bridgestones and just had new brake pads and rotors smoothed 2 months ago. Could it just be the alignment that causes the shaking? Our roads in MA are full of potholes.

It could be, but usually alignment is more of a pulling left or right issue. The shop could have not gotten the wheel mounted exactly right, or not torqued them evenly or at the proper specification - 76 ft/lb which is lower than most other makes.

A good tire shop with the Hunter GSP9700 road force balancer should be able to figure out your issues. It will detect if your tires or wheels are defective and get them balanced for high speed driving.

I concur with Adamjeeps. Not an alignment issue. Assuming it is not the road itself, it could be any of these (and then some):

Tire
Improperly balanced
Bad
Flat spotted or cupped
Wheel
Bad/Out of Round
Shock/Strut
Weak or bad
Wheel Bearing
Bad
Suspension/Front End
Bad component
Aerodynamics

Less and less likely as you head down the list.

So finally got the tire re-balanced and had a chance to let her rip on the NJ turnpike. It was a thing of beauty.

Thanks to everyone. Problem solved.

RX330inFL & Adamjeeps - As I am now questioning Everything my former mechanic did on my car (they put the Bridgestone's on), when I have the right rear wheel bearing replaced I will have the tires rebalanced. I think it started to shimmy around the time new tires were put on. Tires aren't cupping, though. Shocks/struts are said to be okay..

Not sure about the suspension. What would symptoms be?
Thanks.

One person's shimmy is another person's shake. Hard to diagnose such via a blog.

If you have no lifetime balance warranty or guarantee with your tires I would try to find a shop with the Hunter GPS9700 as mentioned previous and have them rebalance and check your tires and wheels. Rotate as needed. While on the lift have them check the suspension.

If there is play anywhere in the front suspension you could have the shimmy you describe. More than likely it is a tire out of balance.

I have slight steering wheel shaking at 70 mph, and have newer tires on....drove to FL and back in Feb. Is not too bad, but not slick smooth as it is as 60 mph.

Today I found out the front sway bar is broken, as I was in for an oil change and tire rotation. Apparently the sway bar problem is something that has been problematic to the RX33. Will get it repaired next week and then see if the 70 mph shake is still there or not.
