Default RX350 HID fogs and HID low beam bulbs

Hey guys

I'm looking to upgrade my parents RX350 since there are times where i drive their RX instead of my IS.

I've been doing research and i know that the HID bulb size is an D2S. just to be sure i'm not wrong, i hope someone can back me up on that.

as for the oem fogs, the sylvania website says that they are a 9006 bulb? i was going to get a 3000k 35w 9006 hid kit for it if thats the case.

has anyone done these two things for their RX? i'd love to see some pictures!

Yes you are correct on both bulb sizes for lows and fogs.

Have not upgraded my lows of the RX, they're still OEM...but fogs I installed Sylvania superstars.

Hope this helped buddy.

Why do you need to upgrade the low beam ?It's HID already and at 4300K,anything higher
than 5000K is kind of waste of money (in my own opinion) As far as fog goes, the lens on the RX350 is not big enough to make any major difference even if you switch over to HID 3000K. Now for the 400h, that is a different story, we actually have projector on the fogs and I put a H11 HID kit from one of the vendor here on this site, it works out great, I'm planing to buy an extra pair of ballast from the same vendor to install HID reverse light

I wanted to upgrade to 6000k bulbs since they dont seem to be bright enough. it could be because i'm use to the 6000k bulbs in my IS300 low beams.

as for the fogs, the halogen bulbs dont do much in the fog in san francisco, which happens quite often. so even though they aren't projector fogs like my IS300, i think they'll still make a bigger difference in the fog than the halogen bulbs. I wish the RX350 had projector fogs like the 400H tho

I got 5000k fogs to go with 4300k lows, looks good on 3rd gen RX, should look just as great on 2nd gen.

I have 5000k fogs too and OE 4300k on the low beam also. It worked out great. I was going to swap the fog projector out to TSX Bixeon so I have Bixeon projectors for kicks,
but it's too much work.

Anyone know how to change the fog light bulbs? do i have to remove the inner fender liner to get to it? How difficult is it?

Color temperature has nothing to do with "brightness". Anything above 4300k would be considered more blue/purple and you'd be seeing LESS on the road.

Fog light bulbs can be done without removing anything, I just put some silverstars in there for the heck of it. I think you just have to pull down the little plastic below the bumper, I don't remember exactly, also I have the a body kit on, but I think that may have made it harder to reach up there but I still did it without removing anything. Looks much nicer, and they were on clearance at Walmart, and I replace the high beams with silverstars, and some LED in the little light at the top of the high beam lens.

I actually thought about swapping the headlight projector for a clear one since the RX doesn't have a sharp cut off. I think it would be make the auto-level and AFS come to life.

I did the clear lens swap with a ZKW-r for my TL and the cut off is razor sharp.

My retrofitter is doing a Honda S2k clear lens for me right now with high power led for DRL
on my RX. It's a lengthy process to do it right. (i.e. cooling, power regulation since I'm not using a standard ballast but a modify Hyper ballast )

Default Remove bumper to install HID fog bulbs

2009 RX 350.
Although you can replace the fog light bulbs with HID type, mounting the HID ballast is more challenging without removing the bumper. After looking over different ways to do the conversion, I decided to remove the bumper so I can see where is the best place to mount the ballast. I decided against using zip ties on the metal bumper because I am concerned with the squeaking it might create when rubbing against the Styrofoam on the bumper. The passanger side can be converted without removing the bumper. However, if you have a factory towing package, the oil cooler duct on the driver side is in the way to reach the fog light bulb. Relative easy to remove the bumper. On the top, there are three push plastic lock you can remove with a screw driver. On the bottom there are four 10mm screws and two 10mm bolts on the center. On the wheel well, there is a 10mm screw holding the top tip of the bumper. Half-way down there is hex screw.
Make sure you slip the bottom cowl into the screw holders so the screw can hold it down when you are ready to install the bumper. See the link for pictures of where I mount the ballast and where the oil cooler duct is located.
