Rx and the roof rack?
Hi everyone, i am thinking of buying couple of touring kayaks and was wondering how to put them on top of the RX, i went to lake George in NY and the other lakes there and must have seen every third suv with kayaks and roof racks -
Do our car have roof racks? i know we have the bars on top, so what would i need to buy to transport the kayaks?
i have no clue about these things so asking the more experienced fellow members thanks

im not experienced at all. but it is my understanding that the RX does have full functioning kayaks. i believe you can buy kayak holding attachments that connect to the two bars that cross the middle of the roof. im sure if you go to a sporting goods store that sells the kayak module, they can see if its compatible
edit: after doing some research

that might come in handy. scroll down to SUVs. apparently, you can just tie the kayaks onto the roof bars... you might want to look into that

As RXSF stated you can probably check with the sporting goods store that sold your kayaks and they would know if mounting adapters are available for the RX. Most racks will use either Thule or Yakima mounts. The big thing is to check the total weight of the mounts and the kayak. I believe the max weight for the RX roof rack is 150 lbs. You can double check your owners manual to find that. Good Luck.

Yakima has some good racks...I've used them on my car before.

Go to Wal-Mart and buy some nylon straps with the mechanism to cinch them up. Use two straps for each kayak at the front and rear of the roof rack. Run the straps through an area of the kayak on the inside that will let you cinch up the slack to your roof rails. On the RX350 the maximum weight is 165 lbs. I am not sure for the RX330 or 300.

I have never put a kayak (or anything else) on my roof rack but have a question. How would the air funneling under the kayak affect handling at Freeway speed? Wouldn't it just rip the rack off the roof? I know that is a dumb question but will ask it anyway, before I leave my roof rack along side the road.

The factory installed roof rack can support up to 165 lbs and if 2 kayaks did not exceed this weight I would not blink an eye on using the OEM roof rack.
