Roof rack, but no luggage use?
So, I'm reading the brochure on the new RXs at the dealership and there is a footnote on the available roof rack.
The footnote states, "Accessory roof rack with rails not recommended for luggage."
As John Stuart would say. . . "Whaaaaa?"

...i think the RX looks better with the roof racks than without it. So...its really just a "looks" thing and it really comes with every RX whether or not you order it. Now if you really wanted to hook up some skis to it, im sure that would be okay

RXSF is right, "conventional wisdom" from Lexus says SUV must have a roof rack for cosmetic reason simply because RX is called SUV, never mind it increases wind noise, decreases aero dynamic and mpg, and have little utility.

If you look closely, there should be a decal stating maximum weight and all the weight must transfer evenly on the long rails.
The earliest RX model had rubber rails glued directly on the roof and some people actually put boxes and the roof got damaged. Lexus quickly replaced that with the rail type carrier. That created noise and an improved version was introduced a year later.
The carrier overall is for looks and some prefer it was never there. I have seen a few RX with the rack removed and to me it seems some thing is missing. But then again, when it comes to looks, each have their own taste.

I can see that the roof itself is not reinforced, so weight directly on it is a no-no. However, I wonder how much weight the cross bars can bear?
