2000 RX300 Burning Oil
Hey guys, first post here on this site!
My family has a 2000 RX300 that my grandpa bought brand new so we know the history behind it, only has about 110,000 miles, well maintained. Somewhat recently started burning oil. My sister drives the car (she is 19) and my mom puts oil in about once a month or so and she says it keeps burning the oil. I dont know the details on what is wrong but she brought it a couple places to get fixed and quotes were more or less $3,000. Any advice what to do?

welcome. This seems to be a documented problem with the early 1st gen RX300's.
The factory solution was to replace the valve cover which have "better" air/oil separation that will be less prone to sludge build up.
Also a clogged PCV may contribute to the cause of consumption.
Search a bit more on this forum for more input on this topic for more tips.
FYI, i have a 2002 RX300 that has the occasional bouts of oil consumption, my first solution that worked for a while was to replace the PCV and run sea foam through the intake manifold.

Ill have to ask my mom what oil she has been using, stupid question from a newbie but what is a PCV? I know what a valve cover is since I had to replace mine on my 99 4Runner (250K miles strong) but dont know anything about how to work on cars. Any other helpful info guys?

I just happen to be reading the thread about the valve covers: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...lve-cover.html
Even though I own an '03, I popped the hood to make sure I had the new style PCV.
ETA: Just in case you have no idea where the PCV is, it's on the passenger side of the vehicle towards the windshield, high up on the engine above (and behind) the belts on Bank 1.

I used to be a big Mobil 1 fan, but I switched to Pennzoil Platinum
after watching my '99's blow through oil like gangbusters on the highway. After switching, no more problems! Welcome to the forum; I have found it so helpful over the years!!
