Clunk Sound From Rear When Shift from D to R
Hello, everyone. I am new to here. I have a question about my RX300. I always have clunk sound, when I shift from D to R. I did do a complete full stop, and then shift the gear. I did a short investigation, and found out it maybe caused by a worn U Joint:
-------------------
If a universal joint fails it can make a clunking noise that occurs when the car is changed from drive to reverse gears. To check for this condition inspect the U joint and look for a light rust powder around the bearing cups. (http://www.2carpros.com/articles/clunking-sound)
---------------------
I am blind to cars, so I can not verify this statement. Can I visually inspect if the U Joint is good or not under the car?
Besides, I learned that the whole drive shaft should be replaced if U Joint is worn, is that correct? (that is a lot of money )
Any help will be appreciated. Great Thanks.

First question, your RX300 is AWD, correct? If so, then you can inspect the joints on the driveshaft, by getting underneath and taking a look. If it's FWD, then you will not have a drive shaft, thus you can rule out bad u-joints.
Does this clunk occur only on a cold start, or does it happen even after the vehicle is at operating temperature?

Thanks Hypervish.
It is a AWD RX300.
It appears when the engine is at operating temperature. It doesn't appear when the first time I start the car and shift the car from P to R every morning.
